It started the season as the Rasmus Dahlin draft, it still is the Rasmus Dahlin draft and, based on the immense potential of the prospect and associated forecasts of greatness, it may well forever be known as the Rasmus Dahlin draft. We can expect the Dahlin hype train to hit top speed this week as he sets out on a career that will determine where he fits in the pantheon of modern-day elite Swedish defencemen. He has a long, long way to go to earn favourable comparisons to arguably the greatest Swedish defenceman ever - Nicklas Lidstrom - but Dahlin already demonstrates much of the same ease and three-zone impact as the Hall of Famer.

More than players will be selected over seven rounds, and the consensus among teams, scouts, coaches and analysts ends with Rasmus Dahlin at No. The draft class is marked by depth, as there isn't a ton of separation between the players ranked from No. Every team is going to have a very different draft board this year. Here are my top 80 players available in this season's draft class. This is my rankings, not a projection of where I believe each player will be drafted.
The game gave us a good opportunity to watch two prospects in particular that are battling for the second overall rank between Andrei Svechnikov and Filip Zadina. Zadina came out of the World Junior with the edge from that head-to-head competition and again was the better in this match. With Rasmus Dahlin the clear top prospect, the battle for second overall is quite tight with Brady Tkachuk also firmly entrenched in the competition. The next tier of four players is interesting as for me it is all defensemen. Adam Boqvist leads the pack and his strongest competition to me is two hot and rising prospects in Evan Bouchard and Noah Dobson who both had outstanding Top Prospects game performances. They currently have a slight edge over Quinn Hughes as I see them all having great skill sets but Hughes is the smaller of the bottom three in this group. Noah Dobson who was previously unranked in my October ranking debuts this month at seventh overall. Evan Bouchard jumps up 17 spots to crack the top ten at sixth overall. He is the leading scorer among all draft eligible prospects during the TPG and had a four point game at the game itself. Breaking my first round ranking this month are newcomers Dominik Bokk, Martin Kaut, and Calen Addison at 21, 22, and 23 overall.

His hockey IQ is very high. Now for his warts. What stands out to me is not his elite skill but his elite awareness. At the top of the class, a bulk of the talent is in defensemen, with very few centers. He sees plays developing so well and can outsmart defenders with his hands and vision. He also shows decent puck protection skills. Those not ranked were given , and so on. He has very impressive vision and seems to always be in the right place at the right time.
