Alien xcom
Finally, another Aliens game to sink my teeth into. I've been playing Aliens: Dark Descent and overall I'm pretty damn happy with the alien xcom.
XCOM: Enemy Unknown is set during an alien invasion of Earth in an alternative version of ; the player controls an elite, multinational, paramilitary organization called XCOM and commands troops in a series of turn-based tactical missions. Between missions, the player directs the research and development of technologies from recovered alien technology and captured prisoners, expands XCOM's base of operations, manages finances, and monitors and responds to alien activity. But like I said, seeing this demo of Aliens: Dark Descent immediately drives home why I should shelve that attitude and give this game some love. The second, however, is just as important: this game is much more than an XCOM clone with a movie license. The connection to the Firaxis strategy reboot is undeniable, obviously. A glance at the structure of the game, where you return to a hub base to manage soldiers with light RPG progression elements, or the pre-mission launch screen, makes it especially clear. It looks very similar. But, dig beyond that, particularly into the flow of combat and exploration in the strategy scenarios - and suddenly you see how Dark Descent is putting a distinctly different twist on the idea of a squad-based tactics game where you fend off powerful extraterrestrial creatures. This ramps up the pressure as your marines push through cramped corridors, making use of motion trackers this is the Alien universe, after all to keep track of where aliens are stalking. You can get jumped at any time, and there's no turns or pausing to save you. Motion trackers are used to great effect to this end. There's two kinds of motion tracker - the iconic alien classic, which sits in the corner of your screen at all times as a UI element that tracks the area immediately around your marines, and a deployable item that can be tossed out anywhere on the map. Between the two of them, you can have a constant read of what is around you, both near and further away - which is handy, but only lasts so long. The Xenomorphs will find and destroy your deployable motion trackers - and once they do, you'll be paranoid that one is lurking around every corner. Perspective-wise, the map, real-time movement and camera perspective almost makes it look like a spacebound Diablo, at least for a moment.
Zombie: Walking dead have risen, with the help of some friendly bugs, to wreak havoc before they serve their purpose.
The aliens' technology initially outstrips anything available on Earth, including XCOM 's in-house development; however, the technology gap is bridged quickly as XCOM's operations yield captured artifacts of increasing sophistication. The aliens rely on several variants of plasma weaponry ranging from the wrist-mounted Sectoid pistols to the Elite Muton's massive plasma cannons. These variations boil down to the same four basic weapons of increasing power and size:. However, the aliens lack specialist weaponry for either long-range marksmanship or close-range assault, despite the fact that they could conceivably have the ability to produce such weaponry, as proven by XCOM's rapid development of the Plasma Sniper Rifle and Alloy Cannon designs. For additional assault firepower, elite alien troops use Alien Grenades , which are more powerful than their human equivalent , yet have the same blast radius. All alien small arms are set to self-destruct after their user's death, although they may leave behind Weapon Fragments which can provide basic insight into the technology. Berserkers possess wrist-mounted blades for extra damage, although the creatures themselves are dangerous enough.
