Angel mugler perfume review

Launched inAngel has always been a divisive fragrance. One glance at the 'love' or 'hate' reviews over on Fragrantica or Basenotes should be enough to convince you that the words 'blind

The famous, the infamous Angel! Love it or hate it, this powerful blue-tinged scent in its ever evolving but always fabulous clunky star bottle 1 made its mark in the world of perfumery. Not only popular even after a couple of decades , this fragrance was so innovative it actually opened way to a whole new genre of scents: the gourmands. Now, for what this groundbreaking fragrance smells like… With a name like Angel , one might expect it to be airy, fresh and serene, almost ethereal in its transparency. Now this, dear reader, is no clean, smooth, dreamy Chanelesque patchouli… This stuff is earthy; dark; rough-textured; herbal-smoky like a cigarette which, by the way, I loathe and heavily mentholated, which makes it feel chemical and quite masculine. A definitely non-angelic, angry beast, roaring and screeching from the tiniest spray… and from the nozzle. Along comes an also intense, slightly powdery and quite bitter chocolate — which I find a much welcome note.

To me Angel is one of those fragrances that represents a significant, sometimes revolutionary, change that the perfume world experiences once a decade or so. And this milestone perfume marked a huge shift in direction of the mainstream, which I both hate and love it for. I blame Angel for the now dominant, overly sweet, sometimes headache-inducing fragrances that saturate the market. I admire Angel for creating a whole new perfume genre — the gourmand. Since the name of this site is Scentgourmand, you can bet that delectable perfumes are a top choice for yours truly. I remember the day I smelled Angel for the first time. I think it was probably La Baie in Montreal but it might just as easily have been in Vermont or some other US state mall just south of the boarder. New releases in perfumery had always beckoned my snoz to the counter in these pre-internet times. It took them a while, but I guess you need to prove that you can maintain super seller status for at least a decade, and still sell. And this juice does still sell, although these, days only in its far less bombastic and obnoxious reformulated self, along with her flankers and sister scents that compete for the spotlight, sometimes smelling very different. And the reformulation? The vintage original I purchased recently on eBay shows its age through its colour. You can see the original Thierry Mugler signature, slightly curved on the side of the star on the old bottle.

With the Patchouly, which was probably also responsible for the somewhat harsh impact, I never had a problem, because it quickly became soft and wonderfully woven.

When I learned that Thierry Mugler had passed away on January 23, I recalled my feelings the first time a sales associate offered me a sniff of the original Angel in a department store: I was intrigued, repelled, and somewhat confused. I didn't buy it, but it lingered in my mind and I kept trying it whenever I spotted that distinctive pale blue star bottle on my shopping rounds. In the late s and early s, I'd occasionally smell Angel on another woman on the subway, at a party, at a professional conference, and sometimes it smelled glorious on someone else, and sometimes it didn't, but it was always distinctive and not quite like any other perfume I did eventually purchase a small bottle of Angel, which I still wear sparingly on occasion — I admire it intensely, as an artistic achievement, but it just isn't me. I've traditionally gravitated more towards Angel's flankers. I somehow never tried Angel Nova when it was released in oh, right! The Mugler website describes Angel Nova as "a captivating, super-feminine fragrance that exudes instant pleasure and confidence.

Perfumanity would seem to generally agree that Thierry Mugler does better than most when it comes to flankers. On the women's side, I still find myself wavering, years later, over a purchase of the best-Angel-yet, Angel Liqueur de Parfum. Angel Muse is the newest in the collection. It comes with a splashy ad campaign and hashtag HateToLove , and the perfumer, Quentin Bisch, talks about his passion for video games , so you know it's geared towards youth. They are calling Angel Muse a 'gourmand vetiver', and I suppose maybe it is, but I'd call it a 'gourmand vetiver Angel', that is, it's still quite recognizably Angel, with a 'gourmand vetiver' facet, if you'll pardon the ad-copy-speak. Mugler has made clean, easy-to-wear variations on Angel, Angels that you could wear in the middle of an August heatwave, but this isn't that. It's an intermediate Angel — easier-to-wear than the original, yes, but with plenty of backbone of its own. Angel Muse opens on fruit salad, heavy on the grapefruit, liberally laced with pink pepper. Its Angelness asserts itself slowly but surely: a whisper of patchouli in the early stages gathers force as it wears on skin, but it's a shade cleaner than the patchouli in original Angel, and it keeps its voice mid-level so as to share the stage with a likewise somewhat clean-ish vetiver.

Old lady perfume. Anyway, diets were her great passion until she found her true fulfilment in hobby painting and finally in the local community, and fashion, cosmetics and cake baking and whatever else you can find in relevant women's magazines, of course As a person I could never really get along with her, she was too loud, too intrusive, sometimes even really embarrassing, especially when she had a glass too much, and her dress style underlined her personality perfectly. And of all things a fragrance that remains exactly the same as it was on the tester from the first splash to the about a day and a half later occurring relaxation is my nightmare fragrance. In a nutshell, Angel is that flirtatious, opinionated, attention seeker at the party showing off more cleavage than many are comfortable with. If she sorted out again and generously gave them away to us, they immediately ended up in the old clothes collection with a few exceptions. The opening is an irresistible blend of cotton candy and coconut lusciousness combined with refreshing citrusy touches, while subtle hints of jasmine and melon add vibrancy.

With fragrance description and so. The blue was as beautiful as ever, the scent alone was a catastrophe. I probably had the first reformulated version, the one before must have been even nicer. If Angel would be a diet then at most FDD, and that was always the dearest to me anyway ; I think that day, when my aunt wore this scent, I let myself be embraced by her voluntarily and gladly for the first time. I took a chance, but it turns out we must have the same memory. I thought it might be kid playing eating ice cream near the path or following me that happens to blonds in Japan.
