Anime is one of the most popular and beautiful forms of visual art. And in this tutorial we will show you how to draw an anime nose. The fact is that in the anime there are a huge variety of how to draw noses. How the nose looks depends on many factors — on the age, gender, and even the alignment of the character. Below we will try to most widely show all the ways to draw anime noses. Most often, the nose in anime is drawn as a simple line.

Some defining feature of anime and manga noses are that they tend to be small and pointy with details like the nostrils often not drawn at all. Of course there are also quite a few variation to the style some of which are shown above. This is the most simple style of anime noses and the easiest to draw. Depending on how simplistic you want the style to be you can even not draw the nose at all when showing the head from the front. A good guideline for placing the nose is to first vertically and horizontally divide the head in half. For the vertical positioning draw this type of nose directly in the middle of the head. For the horizontal position draw it between the horizontal halfway point and the chin. You can place the nose slightly higher or lower based on style and the type of character you want to create but generally try and keep it close to the area described above. This will be discussed in a little more detail later on in the tutorial. The vertical placement of the nose will be the middle of the face. You can roughly estimate where this will be by projecting a line down from the curve of the forehead to the bottom of the chin. As you are really only drawing the end of the nose position it some distance away from this line so that the empty space leaves enough room to fit the full thing if it were actually drawn out. You can give a hint of the nose with just two curved lines as shown in the example above. For the side view again be sure to keep the vertical placement of the nose as described earlier and as shown in the above illustration.

You can also add a nostril when sketching the nose from this view. You can roughly estimate where this will be by projecting a line down from the curve of the forehead to the bottom of the chin, anime nose front.

Sometimes, noses are big and we notice them right away. At other times, they seem insignificant - but something would be missing without them. Anime and manga noses vary widely. We still have the whole ridge and bridge of the nose, the tip, and the nostrils. Finally, we have just the tip of the nose. For more cartoony anime styles, the nose needs to be much smaller, but crucially the actual anatomy and parts of the nose remain the same. And below, you will see all of the different ways we can use this shape to draw anime noses that look convincing to our audience!

Anime Nose Placement While some variation can occur - especially if a character has recently received a blow to the face - anime noses typically follow a standard placement. Again, which noses look male and which ones are female? Another line - a short one - indicates the opening of the nostril. Shade the the bottom part of the nose with a shadow that is wider at the base of the nose and narrower at the tip. You'll use a long line as in the side view, but you will also give more weight to outlining the nostril. In its simplest form, it appears as two lines — the bridge of the nose, and the lower line of the nose. Horizontally the nose should go slightly past the forehead. As such, it likely belongs to a man's face. A detailed, wrinkled nose may signal the character's anger or intense concentration.
