Anna tolstoy
Considered to be one of the greatest works of literature ever written, [2] Tolstoy himself called it his first true novel. It was initially released in serial installments from to , all but the last part appearing in the periodical The Russian Messenger. The novel deals with themes of betrayal , faith , family, marriage, Imperial Russian society, desire, and the differences between rural and urban life. The story centers on an extramarital affair between Anna and dashing cavalry officer Count Alexei Kirillovich Vronsky that scandalizes the social circles of Saint Petersburg and forces the young lovers to flee to Italy in a search for happiness, but after they return to Russia, their lives further unravel. Trains are a motif throughout the novel, with several major plot points taking place either on passenger trains or at stations in Saint Petersburg or elsewhere in Russia. The story takes place against the backdrop of the liberal reforms initiated by Emperor Alexander II of Russia and the rapid societal transformations that followed. The novel has been adapted into various media including theater , opera , film, television, ballet , figure skating , and radio drama. Anna Karenina consists of more than the story of Anna Karenina, a married socialite, and her affair with the affluent Count Vronsky, though their relationship is a very strong component of the plot. A bachelor, Vronsky is eager to marry Anna if she will agree to leave her husband Karenin, a senior government official. Although Vronsky and Anna go to Italy, where they can be together, leaving behind Anna's child from her first marriage, they have trouble making friends. When they return to Russia, Anna suffers shunning and isolation due to the relationship. While Vronsky pursues his social life, Anna grows increasingly possessive and paranoid about his supposed infidelity. A parallel story within the novel is Konstantin Levin, a wealthy country landowner who wants to marry Kitty, sister to Dolly and sister-in-law to Anna's brother Stepan Oblonsky. Levin has to propose twice before Kitty accepts.
Kitty and her mother travel to a German spa to enable Kitty to recover from her ill health. I liked both plots.

If you weren't sick going in.. You see, I was force-fed Tolstoy at college his writing, not his flesh, silly! Vronsky has regarded his interactions with Kitty merely as a source of amusement and assumes that Kitty has acted for the same reasons. These were the driving forces behind this fantastic tale. I have never met such an unlikable bunch of bunsholes in my life m'kay By the end of the first part I was longing for Anna to kill herself I'd known the ending since I was a kid, and if you didn't and I spoiled it for you, sorry. She had such a destructive personality. I wanted to stab myself every time Anna showed up in a scene. No, there is nothing else in that, tragic as it may be. I felt better. Seeing his wife take charge of the situation in an infinitely more capable manner than he could have done himself without her, Kostya's love for Kitty grows. We wrote for a bit, were penpals, but eventually that died.
The wife had discovered that the husband was carrying on an intrigue with a French girl, who had been a governess in their family, and she had announced to her husband that she could not go on living in the same house with him. This position of affairs had now lasted three days, and not only the husband and wife themselves, but all the members of their family and household, were painfully conscious of it. Every person in the house felt that there was no sense in their living together, and that the stray people brought together by chance in any inn had more in common with one another than they, the members of the family and household of the Oblonskys.
This sounds so true but it isn't really. Years later, the only image that stuck in my mind was of Levin meeting Kitty at the ice skating rink. Anna Karenina at Wikisource. I like all the minor characters we get to meet, too, the people Tolstoy finds more genuine than all the upper crust he mocks and derides and, you know, also cares about. Above all what is most striking is the beautiful writing of Tolstoy. Levin's two brothers are both great, and provide the basis for rich conversations. As Rosemary Edmonds comments, 'He leaves the shifting patterns of the kaleidoscope to bring home the meaning of the brooding words following the title, 'Vengeance is mine, and I will repay. In the end, this is a book about life, written by a man who is profoundly in love with life. The book became an electric moment in time as their stories bewitched me. It's to be savored, and sometimes we must be forced to slow down and think about the characters' daily life as they navigate around in their relationships. He liked and did not like the peasants, just as he liked and did not like men in general. DAY honestly i care less about the Christian Art than the farming. Anna, oh my poor Anna!
