Ash and misty
Ash and Misty especially stood out for them. Being roughly the same age and traveling together for so long, TV viewers couldn't help but wonder if there was something more to the pair.
While Ash and Misty remain a popular pairing, especially among older fans who started with the original series, the truth is that their relationship had a lot less romantic hints in Japanese. That's not to say that Ash and Misty's potential romance was entirely a creation of the dub, of course. She also does blush when thinking about him, often lying about what she's thinking when pressed. Still, the idea of Ash and Misty together is pushed much harder by the dub than the original Japanese, although the reasons why are less clear. Melody is much nicer to Misty in Japanese, rather than behaving as if she's trying to steal Ash away.

Over the years, the anime has presented the main hero with numerous companions. Of all the girls Ash has been friends with, though, none have been as close to a potential relationship as Serena. From the beginning, fans have had a number of ships they've cheered on. However, after twenty-five years, there still haven't been very many romantic developments for the series' long-term hero, aside from one particular character: Serena. A few moments and songs from the series and associated films have implied that Misty has romantic feelings towards Ash. There are other, less popular ships as well, including PearlShipping Ash and Dawn and AdvanceShipping Ash and May , but these two are by far the most well-known. However, these teases of romance were never fully developed, and many of the hints towards a romantic Ash and Misty relationship were added by the dub. An implied kiss between Ash and Serena did occur when the XYZ seasons starring Serena ended and the two said goodbye to one another. Serena is unique among Ash's female traveling companions in that she met Ash before the series when the two were younger; he helped her at a summer camp after she injured herself. Throughout XY , it's clear that Serena has a crush on him, to the extent that it's even discussed by others. While the two have never had an official relationship, an implied kiss between Ash and Serena did occur when the XYZ seasons starring Serena ended and the two said goodbye. That gives her a leg up on Misty, who never had any kiss with Ash.
Maybe Misty should become a lifeguard.
Ash and Misty met in the first episode of the anime, when Misty fished Ash and Pikachu out of a river. The wild chase inevitably ended with Ash and Pikachu completely destroying her bike, and as a result, Misty made it her mission to track him down and get him to pay her back. However, after tagging along with Ash for a period of time, Misty grew attached to him, eventually caring about him enough to call him her best friend and even develop an often hidden crush on him. The bike was eventually forgotten completely, and after all the adventures they experienced on their journey together, the two consider each other best friends to this day. During their time traveling together, others often referred to Ash and Misty as though they were a couple, which sparked embarrassed blushes and denial from both of them almost every single time, without fail. Ash and Misty both had a habit of getting jealous when a potential suitor showed interest in the other.
From the marketing materials, it was apparent that Misty and Brock would be returning as his traveling companions to see him through to the end, but when the miniseries began, neither was anywhere to be seen. In this second episode, Ash finally runs into Misty. Pikachu quickly encounters a Clauncher, which clamps onto its tail, and right as Ash is about to catch it, Misty's fishing lure comes flying into the frame and wraps around Ash's hand. It turns out Misty has been trying to catch this Clauncher for a while, so the two decide to have a fishing competition to see who can wrangle it first. When Team Rocket interferes , Ash and Misty instead decide to have a battle to see who gets to catch it. Misty wins, and gets to keep Clauncher, but after the two part ways, Ash catches Misty following him. Pikachu indicates that he'd prefer they stay with Misty, and so the pair are traveling together once more. It hasn't been that long since Misty last appeared on the series; she was recently in an episode of Journeys where she met Goh, which was set after Ash's big win in the World Coronation Series. It's only fitting that she returns for one last arc, since it represents the end of Ash's era as the anime's lead.

He then proceeds to wreck the bike, an incident Misty never lets him forget, deciding to follow him until he replaces it. While they often butt heads, they also share sweet moments of friendship. Misty, however, may secretly wish for a relationship beyond friendship, as these five moments reveal. In these incidents, both Ash and Misty could be called classic tsunderes -- meaning they mask their affections by throwing out harsh insults. Tracey also observes that Ash and Misty are close and purposely veil their feelings for one another. Misty looks especially distraught at this moment, fervently begging him to wake up.

Rudy treats Misty to a fancy dinner and takes her dancing, then asks if she'll stay with him and his sister. Anyway, the girl's brother Rudy completely falls in love with her watching the rescue. They're number one on the list of things she dislikes. Serena's potential romance with Ash also remains unresolved. Maybe Misty should become a lifeguard. There are other, less popular ships as well, including PearlShipping Ash and Dawn and AdvanceShipping Ash and May , but these two are by far the most well-known. Misty's three sisters were handling Gym Leader duties in her absence, but shortly before her return from Johto decided to go on a world tour. Making matters worse, Ash is someone she's just met who has nearly drowned. In the episode "The Ultimate Test," the gang and Todd are having a nice picnic when Misty suddenly blurts out that Ash hasn't won a badge for a while. Close, sure, but not romantic. Misty's comment is a harsh moment of kicking someone when they're down. Years of cartoons beforehand trained them to think the main boy and girl get together in the end. So, she makes the difficult choice to part with Ash and Brock , shown in their emotional farewell episode. When she lands her catch, she shows concern for Pikachu but none at all for Ash. As far as the anime is concerned, they're just very good friends. Ash had jumped into a river to escape a flock of angry Spearows.
