After finally escaping Iraq, aged 14, Asmaa and her family moved to Durham where her father was working as a scientist. At 18, she moved to Cardiff to study medicine, where she is now a consultant breast surgeon at a cancer centre. Asmaa lives with her husband and two children. Her wardrobe is mostly self-made as she likes to create brightly coloured modesty clothing to match her designer shoes — her one indulgence to herself.

Specialising in making lingerie, the triumphant Asmaa plans to channel her creativity for good by making a range of bras for mastectomy patients.
