You can purchase very good ones from Netgear, Eero, Ubiquiti, Google, etc. You will need to place the gateway in pass though mode in order to use another router. If I am having issues with dropped internet on multiple devices once or twice a day, would a new router actually help? A new router would certainly be better than the gateway as far as WiFi and routing duties go but whether it would correct your dropped connections is doubtful. It could just be the service in your area, especially if the same thing happens with a direct, ethernet connection. Not clear what you're trying to accomplish, but if it involves trying to get one of these Arris gateways to work reliably for WiFi, you're wasting your time. Netgear Nighthawk? Theirs seems to be a hotspot which I don't need.
