Expanded Instincts is an original idea created by Rob Zeke Collopy that expands, reorganizes, and adds in brand new categorizations to the three classic enneagram instincts. The structure of the system is modeled after the ego enneagram and represents the subconscious layer between the egoic unconscious mind and the communicative conscious mind. The interpersonal center is the realm of communicative survival through people, relationships, dynamics, bonds, standards, and chemistry. The purpose center is the realm of conceptual survival through ideas, goals, existential thoughts, discovery, wonder, significance, reason, and introspection. The fortitude instinct is how one feels alive by tracking ownership of the physical space surrounding them through both offensive and defensive measures. Fortitude dominants see the world as a collection of containers that can be occupied and consumed from. Being truly alive means immersing themselves in taking what the world has to offer and indulging in its meaning.

Rob began his journey in typology by accident in after coming across a personality test which led to his intense interest in Jungian-based systems of typology. He spent the next 4 years conducting qualitative and quantitative research of the subject to deeply understand the core components of the systems by developing tests, analyzing surveys, working one-on-one with individuals, and reporting back his findings to further bolster evidence that cognitive patterns in the personality are substantial — specifically in the realm of language use and memory. Above all, his motivation for becoming involved in typology was his passion for teaching and guiding others to unlock their own creative power. Rob was fascinated by the core theory of Psyche Yoga and he quickly started researching the merits of what it posited about attitude which is that humans have four essential mental functions or aspects : emotion, logic, will, and physics. Furthermore, they spend their mental or psychic energy unequally towards the four modules of reality — creating four stairs and 24 possible types. Afanasyev further understood that there were unique dichotomies in attitude formed from this hierarchy of mental energy. The attitudinal dichotomies seemed to create a divide over the self versus others. This became a key part of how Attitudinal Psyche developed, and this is what separates Attitudinal Psyche from Psyche Yoga.

On the other hand, they are driven to track how vitality, beauty, and aesthetics add or detract from their comforts like the self-management instinct. The story becomes the fantasy, and the fantasy is memorialized in the mind of these individuals for life. Feeling alive is best experienced through memory and a promise of future memories. When one is driven to track their own comforts, security, inner peace, and calm, they inherently focus on the people they are connected to and what standards they bring into their lives like the community instinct — as well as the purpose, higher meaning, and fulfillment gained from their own security like the existentialism instinct. On the other hand, they are driven to track possibilities, new information, and how the present can devolve into infinite routes like the unknown instinct. On one hand, these individuals are driven to track their own purpose in the world and why their character matters like the self-significance instinct. The memorial triad prefers to view reality through the memories it can create. You must experience life through full engrossment. When one is driven to track the bonds in their interpersonal lives, they inherently focus on the energy and time-management it takes to upkeep these bonds like the self-management instinct — as well as the level of satisfaction, impressions, and chemistry that flows into the bond to keep it alive like the alchemy instinct. Regardless of where they physically are, aliveness is perceived as something they must chase after because it is only present in the absence of all other noise and ruckus.
