Once no more than poppy fields, this lesser known, little-brother neighborhood is on the rise.

While I have my go-to coffee and sweets shop in my neighborhood The Village Bakery , there is another local gem that tugs at my heartstrings — Proof Bakery. Proof Bakery is a small and quaint coffee shop with a dangerously delicious selection of pastries. Located on a stretch of Glendale Blvd. If you are looking for a nice place to leisurely enjoy a cup of coffee and a sweet treat this is the place to go. But be warned, the coffee is good, the sweets even better! They offer a variety of croissants that are baked fresh daily. It is nutty, buttery and sweet.

Totally agree. Their egg breakfasts are delish. Yay Atwater. Best bread in Atwater is across the street at Whole Food for Life. Fresh every morning around 9 AM. Their pastries aren't bad either. Almond croissants are more than decent. The main thing I miss about living in Atwater is that bacon maple scone. They also had some really sweet girls working the counter, something that I really appreciated early on a weekday morning. I love the Village Bakery! I've been going since they opened - their muffins are great and the staffs are super nice. Love that winter veggie pot pie too. Village Bakery also has the infamous Donut Muffin It's a Muffin The Donut Muffin.

I drove up on a Saturday morning to her house just outside of Downtown LA. I always go up Saturday morning because Friday afternoon traffic makes me very, very sad. There was a slight drizzle when I left and I encountered no traffic on my way up. I got to her house just under 2 hours. After I got there, we got ready to head out for the day and went out for breakfast. We were taking a felting class in the early afternoon and gave ourselves enough time for breakfast and a little window shopping before our class started.

Then more of the same, building up, layer by layer, like chocolate architecture. After enough layers, seal the construction with frosting as if fastening the lid on a box, then pour warm ganache over the top, the chocolate falling down the sides like a slow waterfall. Knife out a wedge and pause, if you can bear it, to admire a slice, the zones of chocolate forming their own sweet geology. At Proof Bakery, in Atwater Village, this happens a few times every day. There is a certain irony operating here. Ma, a Glendale native who opened Proof Bakery in , is not really a cake person. She likes pastries and tarts, beautiful things built from laminated dough and seasonal fruit, and when she had cakes, they were more from the European tradition than the sweeter American kind.

Unbelievable assortment of pastries. Great place to work and super friendly staff. It's a nice place to relax and enjoy some carbs in the Arts District. Delicious made-to-order sandwiches. Line can be confusing. Sometimes, they have numbers available. Sometimes, it's making sure one gets in the line that goes around their market. Shrimp or fish, grilled a la plancha or fried. What were the circumstances of your rise to neighborhood fame? Vintage players, boomboxes, vinyl…and cassettes! The changes have, for the most part, all been pretty great— e.
