Wireless earphones and headphones come in all shapes and sizes. This new breed of devices is made for those who want to cut the wire, literally. The Beoplay E8 are available in racing green, black and grey with a bronze trim. No matter the colour you choose, though, the design and performance attributes are identical. The earphones have a left and right indicator shown within the inner part of the silicone housing.

The Beoplay E8 is a tiny yet impressive piece of audio tech. Find out more about how we test. Sure there are plenty of cheaper options, and plenty of more expensive ones. You can throw in a bit more money and splurge for one of our favorite headsets, the Bose QuietComfort 35 , which will give you better battery life and a richer sound. A gorgeous clamshell-designed leather rechargeable leather case provides plenty of protection for your E8s, while simultaneously keeping them charged at all times. Instead, the touch-sensitive pads on each bud give you all the control you need through a series of taps. For example, you can tap and hold on either earpiece to control the volume, or tap on the right to pause a song. Tap three times to invoke Siri or Google Now, or tap once on the left earpiece to enter Transparency mode more on that later. This was done to reduce audio dropout, which is fairly common with these kind of Bluetooth earphones. One you remove the earphones from their case, you simply hold down both touch surfaces to put the Beoplay E8 into pairing mode, and then just select them from your device. Out of the box the Beoplay E8 offers excellent audio quality, but we would recommend that you download the Beoplay app to further tweak the E8. The first is ToneTouch, which functions like a visual equalizer. You drag a dot around four areas — warm, excited, relaxed, and bright, and the audio experience changes accordingly. You can pinch to increase the size of the dot, which then changes the effect on the audio.

Now, they're a bit more expensive than before, but these true wireless earbuds are also far more appealing too with the addition of wireless charging and a few other extra bells and whistles. Notably, if you're willing to go for a slightly less popular color such as white, you can usually find them on retailers like Amazon for a little less. It's all down to just how important the color scheme is to you.

Unfortunately, you could also say the same about other best wireless earbuds on the market. The charging case is shaped a little differently than most. Instead of the rounded corners and sleek finish of a typical earbuds case, the E8 Sport is cylindrical with a flat top and bottom. The earbuds themselves are quite the departure from many of the usual offerings out there. In fact, they fit very snugly without being uncomfortable. Sweat away!

If you demand the best possible sound in a compact, wire-free package, these are the headphones to get. The E8 earphones are constructed from lightweight polymer with aluminum accents. Instead of using rubber fins, or hooking into your ears like other in-ear headphones do, the E8s stay in place by being thrust into the opening of your ear canal. That they come with four different sizes of silicon tips to ensure a secure fit as well as a set of Complyfoam foam tips helps to ensure a good fit—but you might want to buy them from a shop or online store with a solid return policy, just in case.
