As a thief, the character has access to higher lore, thieving abilities and backstabbing. This allows the character to act as an assassin for devastating damage, to detect and disarm traps, to hide in shadows in order to scout ahead of the group, to pick locks, and to pickpocket. Similar to the mage, the thief also requires the character to give up heavy armor with few exceptions. The player should also keep in mind that the backstab ability only works with weapons usable by a single-class thief and build their proficiencies accordingly. During character creation, rolls below the minimum value for the class will be increased to that value. This class may Specialize in any weapon, allowing them to invest up to two points into a specific Weapon Proficiency. As a result, fighters may do more damage and hit more often with weapons from the specific proficiency. July in Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition. Hey y'all! I'm having trouble deciding weapon proficiency, I started off with two pips in two weapon fighting, two pips in scimitars, and am wanting to add some into warhammers at some point. The issue I'm facing is that I don't know when or how many to add into warhammers. Should I start adding Warhammer proficiency pips at level 3?

Again, I don't know if getting a second grandmastery in quarterstaff is really worth it for the zerkermage vs putting several points into multiple categories instead like war hammer for Crom Faeyr and scimitar for Belm , or other good secondary weapons, but in the end, this is just a build idea outlined by gorgonzola in this thread earlier that I found interesting and wanted to try out. Nothing wrong with war hammers either well, there's the low base damage again , but if that's what you planned to use as your main weapon throughout the saga, then I'd have started with that at the beginning of BG1 so that you could have grandmastered it by fighter level 9, and taken scimitars or short swords later to better off-hand Belm or Kundane but Belm is good for Jaheira, and Kundane is good for Haer'Dalis, so we come back full circle, which is that what weapons are best depends on what party you want to put together.
