Some have pointed out that even if Choe concocted Rose, his story is entrenched in racism and is a prime example of misogynoir. During the massage, Choe said, he got sexually aroused and then began to masturbate in front of Rose. He explained that his behavior initially shocked Rose, and despite her reluctance and physically distancing herself from him, he continued with his sexual advances:. I just start jerking off. The controversy over Choe's casting could have been avoided if the show's creators didn't rely on nepotism in choosing him. Netflix almost had the best show of the year on its hands. Beef , a hypnotic portrait of strangers who take their self-hatred out on each other after a parking lot spat, has racked up the admiration of audiences and critics — including myself — since it came out on April 6. But his career continued apace. Being provocative merely became part of his brand. He funded the show himself, and after all, the company bought it anyway.
