About 15 years ago a local builder asked me to design an exterior colour scheme for his new display home. We wanted to achieve a classic timeless appeal for the property as it was important that the house remained contemporary and relevant for as long as possible and so I opted for some warm neutral brown grey tones — the quintessential neutral exterior palette. This really is a great lesson and one that I often relate to clients as re-painting the exterior of a house can be very costly and this is really only something you want to undertake every 15 years or so. Of course, a colour scheme on one house cannot always be translated successfully to another. Quite often the appeal of a wall colour is enhanced by a contrasting trim for the fascia board or window corbelling.

Finding the right white for an exterior project contains all the pitfalls that are there when selecting whites for an interior scheme, and more! However there are rules to follow and I have some great tips to help you to select a colour scheme for your white exterior project that you will love. This pretty cottage has Dulux Antique White USA on the walls, which looks lovely as it is in shadow and you can really see the creamy underlying colour. The trim in Dulux Vivid White, which is in the direct sunlight and offers a nice contrast. Do not underestimate the impact that natural sunlight will have on a white exterior scheme. This changes significantly around the world as the natural light in England is very different to the strong unforgiving sunlight of Australia. The intensity of the sun will vary throughout the country too and will have a greater impact in a rural environment, particularly in the outback, than in a leafy Melbourne suburb. So the point that I really want you to take away from this is that colours will vary depending upon where you are, so a white that works well in one environment cannot necessarily be used for another.

We chose the grand piano quarter and it looks great. Beige royal quarter or feather soft for exterior? Oh wow that looks like a warm grey in the photo - Very nice : Do you find that it's too light when the sun hits it? Ages ago I was looking into Grand Piano on the net to see what people thought of it, how it looked etc and it was in a country home magazine and they said it pairs really well with white. In some rooms it appears as a tinted slightly warmed grey,at some times in appears to have a very subtle tinted warm green look VERY subtle don't worry in other rooms it looks like the perfect neutral Custom downslope build Build thread viewtopic. I've found that Grand Piano does not throw any yellow at all, it's a true neutral and seems to go well with lots of different colours. I would absolutely recommend that you do something similar as it really did help with decision making.
