Usually at Best Buy that's exactly what an open box product is. To me that alone is a good reason to buy new items unless you are saving enough to make not getting the warranty worthwhile. Open-box products can also be floor models that the store has used to show the item off to customers. If it's substantial enough I would be willing to take the risk, if it was immaterial then I'd buy the new sealed box version. Clearly a demo unit. I wouldn't go much lower than that, but if you can purchase AppleCare on such an item if you were going to buy it anyway then maybe that's a good loophole.
