However, on the return leg I breezed straight past the mph mark - where the limiter is supposed to cut in - on a stretch of derestricted autobahn, with the electronic buffers kicking in instead at an indicated mph. This lead to quite a bit of speculation in the comments on YouTube. Curious to find out the actual speed, I had a look through the GPS data recorded by our TomTom Bandit test camera the one to the left in the image below which was also busy capturing my ugly mug. In other words This is interesting for two reasons.

I can confirm that a Mi has a top speed limiter at mph. I tested this on my recent ED. Of course, this does not matter even a little bit if the car will spend its entire life in the US. But it would have been very annoying to be limited to mph for those 2 weeks I spent driving all over Europe. Of course I obeyed limits - but when there were none, and when the visibility and traffic made it safe, I frequently pushed it over mph.
