Armed with just a paintbrush and the naked bodies of many wonderful volunteers thank you! In the full glare of the public, Trina Merry worked painstakingly hard to ensure each detail was perfect. One stroke out of the place and the invisible cloak would be instantly removed.

Body painting is probably one of the most ancient forms of art. It has been around for thousands of years and has been a critical part of human culture. The art of painting our own bodies has been used to celebrate, go to war, hunt, seduce, and more. Body painting is an incredibly versatile art form that ranges from using decorative body paints to create designs on our bodies, to more modern body art forms like tattoos. We will use this blog post to talk about the different forms of body paint and answer some common questions regarding this art form. Body painting can be dated back to the paleolithic when indigenous tribes use natural pigments made from ashes, rocks, animal by-products, and plants to decorate their bodies for diverse purposes. Body painting was used on ceremonies with specific patterns and colors for each occasion, as well as on warriors, to help incite fear in their enemies and identify themselves.
In , after being struck by lightning, Trina Merry had an idea for an art project: what would it look like if she blended people into the street art murals she and her friends were painting in San Francisco? This question took her down a rabbit hole of performance and installation experiments with painting on people that led her to develop an optical illusion for turning three-dimensional bodies into what appeared to be two-dimensional paintings and photographs. Since then, it has led her to some very unexpected places. Everything turned white and there was a loud buzzing sound as the lighting filled her car. The most incredible aching sensation shot through her bones.

I have since rocked an insane amount of masterpieces while traveling the world as an international instructor of body painting specializing in graffiti style. Through teamwork, they pushed through impossibility together to create a cutting-edge work of art. It is one of the most ambitious and highly inventive bodypaintings ever created. It is hands down the most ambitious, difficult and rewarding projects I have been a part of so far.
