The Hub gives Boston University students the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills, and habits of mind that will enable them to be lifelong learners and leaders in a rapidly evolving global community. All undergraduate students, regardless of the academic program in which they are enrolled, are required to develop six essential capacities and earn 26 BU Hub units in six areas, typically within courses, to graduate from Boston University. The Hub is integrated into the entire undergraduate experience. BU Hub requirements are flexible and can be satisfied in many different ways, through coursework in the major, and BU Hub cocurricular experiences. Remaining BU Hub units can be satisfied from a wide range of available courses within and outside the major, BU Hub co-curricular experiences, and AP credit. All Kilachand courses carry BU Hub units. The Kilachand curriculum is also incredibly flexible, and students may make choices within the Kilachand curriculum to complement the Hub units they earn through their schools, colleges, and majors.

The BU Hub is founded on a set of learning outcomes that are designed to help students navigate and contribute to an increasingly complex world.
