Created as part of a collaborative effort between franchise creator Akira Toriyama and Toei Animation , the characters first appeared in the Universal Saga arc of Dragon Ball Super as antagonistic characters from an alternate universe to the setting of the Dragon Ball series: Kale was originally conceived as a derivative character of popular Dragon Ball villain Broly by Toei Animation staff, and Caulifla was personally designed by Toriyama [1] as a companion and counterpoint to Kale. Bennett and Elizabeth Maxwell in the English dub respectively. Both individual characters as well as Kefla have received a positive reception, leading to appearances in other franchise media like the promotional web series Super Dragon Ball Heroes , as well as various licensed Dragon Ball video games. Caulifla's characterization has been described as "arrogant, ambitious, and eager for a challenge", [2] while her visual design is reminiscent of a wild, "lawless child" with an unparalleled "battle sense". She is also passionate about improving her own strength and power, which is evident when she learns from her Universe 7 counterparts about various advanced, more powerful forms a Saiyan could attain. She is a very meek and timid individual by nature; she is devoted to Caulifla and desires is to fight alongside her as equals. Her backstory is portrayed similarly to the original version of Broly from Universe 7, an immensely powerful being known as the Legendary Super Saiyan who emerges with each passing millennia.

In the anime, Caulifla's eyes are narrow yet big, with large black pupils, as well as thin eyebrows. In the manga, Caulifla's eyes are squarish, being rounded while Super Saiyan and in Toriyama's art. As noted by her brother, she has a very punkish attitude and is also recognized as a tomboy among Universe 6 Saiyans, to which she shows a strong contrast to the rest of her race, acting more akin to the Universe 7 Saiyans. Caulifla is shown to be very lazy if not self-absorbed as she initially refused to join the Tournament of Power even when learning her universe's or her own existence were on the line, until her interest was piqued by witnessing Cabba's transformation into a Super Saiyan, showing her desire to become stronger.

Dragon Ball Super introduced dozens of new characters to the Dragon Ball franchise. Many of these new characters were introduced during the Universal Survival saga as participants in the Tournament of Power. Two of the participants who fans fell in love with the most were the Universe 6 Saiyans, Caulifla and Kale. The first female Super Saiyans in the franchise, fans adored their contrasting personalities, their epic fights and attacks, and their fused form, Kefla. However, since the Tournament of Power, the two best friends have been absent from the story. More recently, Goku and Vegeta's new forms fell easily against Black Frieza. Caulifla is a fearsome Saiyan gang leader from Universe 6.
She is the latest Legendary Saiyan of Universe 6, a demon warrior who appears once every 1, years. Like other pure-blooded Saiyans, Kale's name comes from a vegetable, more specifically kale. She was created largely as a response to the immense popularity of the movie character Broly as well as his status as the Legendary Super Saiyan. Kale was created by Toei Animation for the Tournament of Power. Her initial background prior to Caulifla's creation was much different, unreleased but found in the source code of the Toei website for Dragon Ball Super. This version of her backstory stated that she was often looked down upon by the Saiyans of Universe 6 in particular Cabba who would be irritated with her, largely due to her meek attitude. At one point, Cabba demanded that she let her anger out and access a Super Saiyan form as he himself did. However, he ended up gaining far more than he bargained for when she proceeded to transform into a berserker state of Super Saiyan.

Massive spoilers ahead for folks who aren't caught up on Dragon Ball Super. Toei Animation's Dragon Ball Super is an absolute gift to fans of the franchise and newcomers alike. The anime's previous titles like Dragon Ball , Dragon Ball Z , and Dragon Ball GT have been criticized over the years, sometimes good-naturedly, for spending full episodes showing characters powering up with no real action or by relying on filler episodes. Power-level scans may be long gone, but the latest installment of Akira Toriyama 's hit anime is revisiting every major milestone among the Saiyans and their pals. We've already taken a deep dive into Dragon Ball Super 's brand new power level-- Goku's Ultra Instinct transformation --but in light of the show's most recent episode, it's worth explaining some of the other "modes" on display, including the return of the vaunted Fusion technique. Caulifla is determined to defeat Goku alongside Kale and become Super Saiyan 3, and Kale is also determined to get stronger herself, powering up to become Legendary Super Saiyan, worrying everyone watching. Kefla answers by further powering up, turning into Super Saiyan 2 , her power impressing everyone, to the point she claims she could destroy an entire universe in a single shot, and proceeds to attack Goku, who dodges all of her attacks and lands a hit on her, with Kefla claiming that he can still do better than that. In the manga, Caulifla battles Frieza and is overwhelmed. With the technique's incomplete state, Ultra Instinct Sign, every part of a fighter's body acts on its own, independent of the mind or the rest of the body, making their reaction time to attacks instant. The final episode of Dragon Ball Super teases how the franchise's first two female Super Saiyans, Caulifla and Kale, will once again shatter their limits when they return for the next anime.

In the manga Caulifla heads to Champa's place with Cabba and Kale, Caulifla questions why Cabba wanted to bring Kale along - as while she has great potential she is currently very weak, and Cabba having noticed Kale's true power that she was hiding from Caulifla states that it is because they need as many candidates for the team as possible. However, Goku was still tired from his fight with Jiren during the entirety of his battle with Kefla, and he was able to dodge and react to Kefla's attacks for the most part. Kefla was then able to knock him out of his Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-ken state with a single kick to the neck, doing so by attacking Goku from behind while he was firing his attack, and due to his weakened stamina, Goku was immediately taken out of his Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-ken and back to his base form. When Zoire tried to finish her off with his Justice Spin , Caulifla used whatever energy she had left to protect Kale and would have been finished when Kale's unique Super Saiyan form destroyed the tornado and saved Caulifla.
