Strangely enough, though, the same description fits All Dogs Go to Heaven , Don Bluth's lighthearted romp about a very bad dog and the little girl who teaches him how to love. Except All Dogs is also a horrifying phantasmagoria of murder, demons, drinking, gambling, hellfire, and blue eyeshadow. Sure, this is all sort of par for the course for Bluth; the former Disney animator has a reputation for making movies that skew much darker than the ones made by his former studio. That said: In retrospect, it's remarkable that All Dogs was a released into theaters as is, b somehow considered a children's movie, and c transformed into the kind of property that's immortalized via Kids Meal toys. Sure, movies like Watership Down might give the flick a run for its money. But after rewatching All Dogs , I feel pretty confident in saying that this is the most upsetting ostensible kids' movie ever made.

Don Bluth , the director of the original film, had no involvement with it. This was MGM 's last theatrically released animated film until Igor Nearly 60 years after the events of the first film , Charlie B. Barkin welcomes his friend, Itchy, to Heaven , but states that he is disillusioned by the afterlife. Their old nemesis, Carface Caruthers, steals Gabriel 's Horn, but loses it somewhere over San Francisco in his attempt to escape with it. When the head angel Annabelle announces the horn's theft, Charlie submits his candidacy to retrieve it, reminding Annabelle of his familiarity with street life. Annabelle sends Charlie and Itchy to Earth to retrieve it, and gives them one miracle to use. Upon arrival in San Francisco, Charlie and Itchy attempt to indulge in their old habits, but they discover that they are ghosts , and therefore unable to interact with the physical world. At a tavern where Charlie is enchanted by a beautiful and charming Irish Setter named Sasha La Fleur, Carface appears in a corporeal form granted by a red dog collar created by Red, an elderly dog fortune teller who gives Charlie and Itchy equivalent collars effective for a single day. Unbeknownst to the duo, Red is actually a large demonic cat who intends to take the horn for himself with Carface's help. Charlie and Itchy meet Sasha and an 8-year-old human boy she is looking after named David, who ran away from home to become a street magician. Charlie uses his miracle to grant Sasha the ability to converse with David, who comes to believe that Charlie is his guardian angel. Charlie sees the horn being taken into an SFPD police station and recovers it, but in his reluctance to return to Heaven, he hides it in a lobster trap.
He enjoys the finer things in life, charlie and itchy, but when it comes to danger he itches from nervous tension and will relieve it by scratching himself even unintentionally knowing he or his peers are in danger or at a certain risk.

Anabelle puts him on probation and when he returns to earth he discovers Carface has muscled Sasha out of her restaurant Determined to get Sasha's place back for her Charlie and Itchy dress up like southern belles to captivate Carface and Killer. The love- struck villains reveal their true identities and our crooks get dumped on a garbage barge heading out to the ocean. While traipsing in a snooty Nob Hill area Charlie and Itchy are lured into a dog trap set by a bratty little kid named Teddy. Teddy hates dogs and has been capturing and sending them to the Dogcatcher. After escaping Charlie and Itchy have an argument and Anabelle decides she'll trade places with Itchy. Charlie now saddled with the naive Anabelle discovers their mission is to stop Teddy. They learn Teddy's Gram is an animal activist who has no time for the boy. Using Anabelle's miracle Charlie turns Teddy into a dog to teach him a lesson and eventually everyone winds up in the dog pound. Teddy realizes his evil ways while Charlie acknowledges he needs Itchy.
