I have a few I picked up ,leftovers from years past at tree colorado blue spruce bonsai, the type I picked up have great bark, hilltop spruce is what tag said it was very faded I myself love the look of them, for the most part I have just slightly root pruned them and re-potted them and minor branch pruning with soil consistent of lava rock, pumice, and fir bark.

The tree color can vary from dark green through all shades of blue-green to powder white blue. This can be accomplished in several ways. Watering should be done with a watering can or hose attachment which should dispense the water in a soft enough manner as not to disturb the soil. After placing the tree back in the pot, the area left vacant by the pruned root mass should be filled in with fresh soil.
