As well as running a science journalism workshop for Pacific Island journalists in , CPAS followed up in the same year with a science teacher workshop and the first Pacific Science Communication Forum. A joint teaching program is being developed with the National University of Singapore. In South Africa , CPAS helped to develop a touring hands-on science exhibition and has been invited to work in and with various South African science centres. With a flourishing graduate program, CPAS encourages research in all aspects of science communication. Degrees are offered at all tertiary levels. CPAS has a wide research program dealing with issues at the interface of science and the public. Apart from a long-standing agenda of research in science centres, CPAS is concerned with current issues in science, with the communication agendas of scientists, and with effective communication of science concepts. The research program is interdisciplinary and contributes to the emerging framework of science communication theory. Questacon was the brainchild of Michael Gore , [8] a senior lecturer in Physics at the Australian National University, who became its first director. An important part of its activities was outreach, supported from the beginning by sponsorship from Shell Australia. Dr Gore approached Professor Chris Bryant, [9] then Dean of Science at the Australian National University , with a proposal to set up a science circus to travel Australia, to be staffed by graduate science students enrolled in a course of science communication.

It has links with communication programs in universities across Australia, Europe and the Americas and with science centres on all continents including Asia and Africa. We are seeking new colleagues who are critical thinkers, researchers and teachers. We want to welcome new colleagues who are motivated by our dual mission to do research that informs science engagement practice and policy around the world and to nurture the next generation of science communication and engagement scholars and practitioners. We are active in the major debates and resolving the core challenges for science communication and engagement now and we will continue to redefine and expand the field for public good. Our diversity and collegiality is a core strength; we collaborate with each other and across the world in areas like responsible innovation, science communication for public good, media and popular science, capacity-building in science engagement, the ethics of science communication, and the role of science communication in emerging areas of science, technology, and medicine. We champion inclusive science communication in both our research interests and in our practice.
