It's one thing to learn you had a child you didn't know about, but it's a whole other thing to find out you're getting full custody after never meeting them before. In a popular post on the Daddit subreddit, a man shared the saga of meeting his teen daughter and learning how to be her father. He wrote:. Fast forward 15ish years later. In a lot of ways, modern fatherhood is a lot different from what it used to look like for previous generations. While my grandfather never changed a diaper, and wasn't even in the room when his children were born, my husband — like many millennial dads — has played as active and involved a role in our children's lives as I have, right from the beginning. That's really important, and it's absolutely about time that the value of fatherhood is recognized, but unfortunately, the tired old trope of the clueless dad still lingers. Case in point? The dads of Reddit are pissed about this onesie , and honestly, you can't blame them. Although snarky onesies are awesome and, let's be honest, totally one of the best aspects of dressing a tiny human , whoever made these unfortunate shirts definitely needs to get a clue. The subreddit for dads — aptly named Daddit — is an online community of nearly 70, people filling all kinds of fatherly roles, and is a place to share cute kid photos, swap parenting stories, and ask for advice. One thing that Daddit makes pretty clear? These men are far from being "babysitters. The pic, uploaded by Daddit user newdad, showed a tiny onesie with arrows labelling where the child's head and arms would go, with another arrow pointing at the buttons and the instructions, "snap! Unsurprisingly, the dads of Daddit were super unimpressed. As user MashedPotatoh noted, the lame onesie just reinforced what he called "the dumb dad stereotype," which "makes simple things like taking your kid to the park or cooking them dinner, seem like an impossible task.
Lay out some expectations, daddit. As user MashedPotatoh noted, the lame onesie just reinforced what daddit called "the dumb dad stereotype," which "makes simple things like taking your kid to the park or cooking them dinner, seem like an impossible task. You are a damn fine Dad!!!!

He is funded in part by a gift from Mozilla. Previously he was an intern at Mozilla and at Microsoft Research. A lawyer in Bermuda became internet-famous for dancing ballet alongside his two-year-old daughter , comforting her stage fright by being there and doing the dance moves right with her. He knew the part because he had practiced ballet with his children before — and said it was just a normal part of fathering daughters. But social norms have been changing over the past 40 years , as more women — and mothers — have entered the workforce. While mothers still do more work at home, the burden is becoming more equal.

Heck yeah!!! Treat this as a situation where you really want to become friends with this young woman. See all. You must be doing something right. Thanks, I appreciate it, even though it has been extremely hard considering I went from being a man in his early 30s who only had to worry about himself and his dogs to having a teen daughter I did not know about come live with me and daughter has been through a lot of difficult stuff. Start a new thread Flip thread Hide thread. What do you think would be fair? Look at it as someone you would like to mentor but instead of teaching work you teach life. Then, you can engage her by asking her to help. This 15yo girl who has been so much shared that with you, communicated her feelings and communicated her desires about how she wanted to cope with them? I know that's not exactly fair to you, and it's a ton of pressure, but this is your chance to step up and do what may end up being one of the most important things you've ever done in your life. You want to build a lifelong relationship. Keep it up. Does anybody else have any other ideas that OP would be comfortable with? Get to know her, and then support her interests and hobbies.

The difference is, she's coming into it with half as much life experience and no base of support at all. Of all the dads she could have ended up with, after everything she's been through, and everything she had happen after she found you, I'm glad she found you. Just be there and available for her. Make sure you have menstrual supplies on hand - pads and tampons at a minimum. This is going to be a HUGE adjustment for both of you. It might not tho. Unsurprisingly, the dads of Daddit were super unimpressed. That you're proud of how strong she's being, but that it would be nice if you could fight this battle as a team. Here's a link to a thread in Dadsnet. But it lasted way longer than any cold should. Get to know her, and then support her interests and hobbies. It's cheeky to ask for men's views on MN when you know the users are mostly women. You are not her father or authority figure. I met her twice definitely more difficult starting from the middle it would be a lot easier with a little kid or baby.
It is a pity, that now I can not express - I hurry up on job. But I will be released - I will necessarily write that I think.
You are not right. I am assured. Write to me in PM, we will discuss.
