The warrior clans of Mandalore were believed to have been wiped out ages ago, their tattered remnants exiled to the Concordia moon. But as the Clone Wars swept the galaxy, the treacherous governor Pre Vizsla resurrected the Mandalorians, and with them, their legendary combat armor that was feared across the galaxy. Backed by Count Dooku and the Separatists, Vizsla began building an army to retake Mandalore from the control of pacifists who were trying to bury violent Mandalore's past. As the coup became inopportune, Dooku abandoned the Death Watch. Mandalore had supposedly renounced its violent past, exiling the unrepentant warriors to die on the moon Concordia. But the Republic discovered that Mandalorian warriors were once again active in the galaxy — and Obi-Wan Kenobi uncovered a conspiracy by the terrorist group Death Watch to overthrow the pacifist Duchess Satine. The alliance splintered, and Death Watch became a band of nomadic brigands, despoiling planets such as Carlac. Maul convinced Vizsla to commit his warriors to an alliance of criminal organizations known as the Shadow Collective. But his triumph was short-lived. He was finally unleashed by his Master, Darth Sidious , in an assassination attempt on Queen Amidala on the outskirts of Tatooine. The Sith fought with blinding speed and impressive agility, and stabbed Jinn through with his red double-bladed lightsaber ; he would prove unable to best Obi-Wan, however. The young Jedi, in a surprising move, cut Maul in two and sent him tumbling down the planet core, seemingly destroyed.

The Death Watch , or Kyr'tsad in Mando'a , was a splinter faction within the Mandalorian culture who believed that the savage raider lifestyle was the truth path for the Mandalorians. Originally created by Tor Vizsla, the group emerged as an opposition force against Jaster Mereel, the leader of the True Mandalorians, and his Supercommando Codex. The Codex outlined a series of new ideas embracing honorable conduct as a new necessary evolution for the Mandalorian people. In the end Jaster Mereel's faction, called True Mandalorians, would prevail thanks to Jaster's adopted son Jango Fett , but the Death Watch managed to survive fading into the shadows waiting for a new time to strike. It would be under one of Tor's descendants Pre Vizsla that the Death Watch would make a second grasp at power by attempting to assassinate Duchess Satine Kryze, the ruler of the New Mandalorians.

With the duchess in tow, he made his way to the bridge where he murdered the crew and contacted Vizsla for extraction. He returned, tracking the Padawan and his rebel friends to their ship, the Ghost. The two Zabraks awoke on medical tables to meet Vizsla. He was then ambushed and captured by two Death Watch warriors. There, they went and stormed the bridge and Maul attacked Grievous. In the custody of Ahsoka Tano and the Republic troops, a Mandalorian vault blunted Maul's Force powers so that he could be delivered to the Jedi Council. Sci-fi Star Wars. After clashing lightsabers in the throne room of the capital city, Ahsoka turned Maul's own weapon against him and was able to capture the former Sith Lord for the Republic. Maul suggested coercing crime syndicates into an underworld alliance in order to take over Mandalore. When Kenobi gathered the senatorial passengers together and confronted them with a probe killer , its docility betrayed Merrik and he made his move to take Kryze hostage. However, he hit Golec instead, and Kryze fled. After the events on Carlac , Death Watch established a camp on the swamp moon Zanbar in order to rebuild when they discovered the escape pod of Maul and his brother Savage , who had laid claim to the titles of Dark Lords of the Sith and were wounded by Obi-Wan Kenobi. Vizsla wasn't happy with the idea, and when he found out that Maul was trying to build a criminal empire out of it he became furious and keen to get rid of Maul as soon as possible. This was achievable by faking attacks from the syndicates to weaken the control of the existing Mandalorian government. Sidious came to Mandalore where he declared the Zabrak brothers to be his rivals. When he investigated the inside of one , Kenobi found some Mandalorian helmets. Vizsla and a few of his troops revealed themselves and opened fire on Fett, forcing him to escape out of a nearby window via jetpack at the same time the Jedi ships were arriving to deal with the supposed Mandalorian threat. When Kenobi requested that the people nearby were questioned, the bomber ran away, and Kenobi pursued him. Saxon told them it was their job to ensure it worked and Fife was attacked by a melee droid. Djarin took his hand and the warrior flew away with Djarin as the fighting continued. Left to his own devices, Maul used the power of the dark side to rip the hyperdrive from the hurtling cruiser, sending all aboard to certain death when the ship was caught in the gravitational moon.
