Dell charger turns off when plugged in

June 27th, I woke up this morning and my laptop wouldn't turn on.

This post is more than 5 years old. September 14th, I bought a Inspiron 15r N last feburary and now I think the powesupply went out. I plug the charger into the wall and the light is on, when I plug the other end into the pc the light on the charger goes off, I've tried this with two different chargers and they both behave the same. No response form the pc with either charger.

May 16th, I have never charged this laptop before but it had a charge when I got it and worked great. Today the battery was low so I tried to charge it. The ring around the power plug on the power supply lit blue, but when I inserted it into the laptop it died. I tried it again, same thing. When I unplug it, it stays dead until I unplug from the wall outlet and plug back in, then it's blue again. And again if I plug it into the laptop it instantly dies. I unplugged it from the laptop and the wall, plugged back into the wall, and it came on, so I checked the voltage. Voltage from the outside of the barrel to the inside of the barrel is But from the outside of the barrel to the center pin is 0. I removed the battery from the laptop and plugged it in. No difference, it instantly drops to 0 voltage. So it appears the power supply comes on, but gets turned off instantly when I plug it into the laptop, with or without the battery in the laptop.

Dell Support Resources. I tried another M adapter and had the same result.

November 7th, I have this problem too 0. Responses 8. November 12th, Usually the light going off is a sign of a bad DC jack broken or bent centre pin or a MB problem. Since the system charges fine using a type C charger I suspect the MB is fine and the problem lies in the adapter or DC jack. Run diagnostics At the Dell splash screen start tapping F

March 9th, I'm writing this to help others who may have had the same problem. The other thread that is on this topic was 'read only' so I couldn't comment. My inspirion 13 's series laptop stopped charging. The light on the adapter worked when plugged into the wall but as soon as I plugged it into the laptop it would go off and wasn't charging.
