Destiny 2 character slots

As i undestand, there are 3 classes with 2 possible builds each, so I would like to have at least 6 slots for my charecters. How many can you have?

Just buy a third and then some weapon slots. My character doesn't appear on the character select screen. Especially if they bring out the update that introduces beards.
