According to the 5th edition of the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons Player's Handbook, dnd online races, the basic game has nine species a player can choose dnd online races when they roll a character. When a player is relatively new to the game, the variety can be intimidating. Some new players might be looking for a challenge while others would prefer an easier route until they fully understand the game mechanics.
In this compilation of races I will be collating all the races from the core books, the expanded collections excluding Plane Shift , Unearthered Arcana and selected homebrews from around the internet. It will mostly consist of the stats for each race with a little bit of lore. Your character belongs to one of these peoples. Not every intelligent race of the multiverse is appropriate for a player - controlled adventurer. Dwarves, elves, halflings, and humans are the most common races to produce the sort of adventurers who make up typical parties. Dragonborn, gnomes, half-elves, halforcs, and tieflings are less common as adventurers.

Though the more commonly recognised term is races, its use in the tabletop roleplaying game is being phased out in favour of species in an effort to make the RPG more inclusive. Using the word race to describe beings that are sometimes entirely different from one another — such as having scales, fur, hooves or horns - is inaccurate and erases the potential for people within those species to be of different races: who can have varying skin tones, cultural and social factors that can be representative of their real-world players. Their ability score increases feed into their strength and constitution, they have proficiency in intimidation, and automatically gain the Relentless Endurance feat - which prevents characters from falling unconscious when their hit points hit zero. All these factors make half-orcs incredibly efficient frontline attackers, particularly of the physical kind as they get to deal out additional damage whenever they score a critical hit with a melee weapon.
