The story of Dragon Ball Z has been told across various media and in different forms, becoming one of the most well-trodden tales in anime. While many of them follow the same beats almost religiously, the web series parody Dragon Ball Z Abridged proved willing to tease out new ideas and versions of the franchise. Created by longtime fans of the show, they edited the action-heavy show into a more comedic farce -- while still never losing sight of what made the show so memorable in the first place. Dragon Ball Z Abridged isn't just a worthy redub and re-edit of the original anime, it might be the best version of the franchise as a whole. The series nominally follows the same plotline as Dragon Ball Z , from the events of the Saiyan Saga through to the conclusion of the Cell Saga.

The reasons for this are because the main trio was too burned out to abridge any more episodes, that they felt that the Majin Buu Saga was the point where the Dragon Ball franchise jumped the shark, felt that Cell-Out was a perfect finale overall, and Toei was ramping up its crackdown against TFS, going as far as to ban FUNimation from allowing them to participate in any official Dragon Ball material.
