I have owned several blenders over the years and a couple of what I would call high-powered blenders. Finally, I took the plunge and splurged and pick myself up a Vitamix. I decided to go with the Vitamix e Explorian blender since the price was right and a good introduction to the Vitamix line of blenders. This blender does that and much much more. The Vitamix Explorian E is a straightforward full-size blender. It's one of Vitamix's cheaper blenders with simple controls and without any automatic blending programs. Its ounce capacity is smaller than most Vitamix blenders, but it's dishwasher-safe and comes with a two-part lid and tamper. The Vitamix Explorian E is remarkable for multi-purpose use. It does an amazing job at blending smoothies, is exceptional at crushing ice, and can even blend hot foods like soups. It also looks and feels extremely well-built, making it a superb choice for professional use. The Vitamix Explorian E is fantastic for single-serving smoothies. It can make an extremely smooth puree of fibrous ingredients in its main jar, even if you're working with small batches, so it's very well-suited for blending a personal smoothie with fruit or leafy greens. It also easily crushes ice. Some people may prefer a blender with a smaller jar for blending single-serves, though. The Vitamix Explorian E is excellent for multiple smoothie servings. If you fill the jar to its full ounce capacity, it does a fantastic job of making a smooth blend with fibrous ingredients like kale. Some blenders, like the Vitamix A, can produce a similar result faster, but it's a minor difference. It also makes snow-like crushed ice, meaning you can use it for frozen drinks like slushies. It's very well-built and easy to clean.
On the other hand, the Ninja is a little better for crushing ice and comes with a bigger ounce pitcher. Our vegetable intake has certainly increased.
Update one: After eighteen months of use, my E jug is looking a little tired, despite careful washing, drying and dishwasher avoidance. It doesn't bother me and I'm still happy with the E overall. Update two : My mum wanted to buy a high-powered, long-lasting blender and asked me if she should get the Vitamix E I couldn't recommend it as she has mild arthritis in her hands and I know she'd struggle with the lid. I finally got a chance to use it over Christmas and was mightily impressed the design of the lid is lovely. If my E died outside of its warranty I'd replace it with the BlendTec immediately.

It comes with a little recipe pamphlet and a tamper, which you will get a lot of use out of, as this blender requires some stirring and a more hands-on approach.
