Audrey Elliott recounts her Ecotrail Valencia experience — she is well ensconsed in the Ecotrail Community now and plans to travel to Copenhagan for the first edititon of Ecotrail there too! We will look forward to that report too. Ecotrail Valencia was my third race in the Ecotrail series. We arrived 2 days before and settled into a nice apartment in the city centre. We were careful to not overdo the sightseeing and opted for a handy e-scooter tour of the city which we booked on Air BnB Experiences. This was a lovely 2 hour session that brought us to the main tourist spots in the city. Race time was 5pm, so it felt like we were waiting around all day to do it.

I just worked hard to keep concentration, keep the pace. The most demanding distance of Ecotrail leaves the town of Pedralba in the direction of the city of Valencia along paths of the Park of the Turia River. The race continues towards Villamarchante and Ribarroja, going through the pine forests of La Vallesa before heading to the finish line, which is located in the Old Bed of the Turia River, in the center of the city, very close to the Exhibition Bridge.

There were pacers for the half and the marathon in 15 minute increments, I found that to be fantastic news for such a small event finishers in the marathon , in the half. Miles were actually pretty boring and had a very annoying headwind. The trail encompassed many foot bridges that crossed over what was once a river. I was so relieved to get to the finish line as I did find the temperature very warm. I could feel myself losing a little intensity with no one to chase and the headwind but I came across the 15k time check with an overall pace of per mile, so still well ahead of goal. So much to see in Valencia — definitely worth a visit. This was a lovely 2 hour session that brought us to the main tourist spots in the city. By the way, a sub 3 hours marathon means per km. I was proud to wear it the following day. I didn't want to go through an extended period of training though, so the ones from late February to early March were preferred.
