Shin was found to have hijacked Smith's identity and for months sent emails to his partner's family to make it seem he was traveling in Africa to throw them off the scent. Chris Smith, 32, of Laguna Beach, California, in appeared to be sending emails to his parents telling them he was traveling in Africa, when in fact he had been murdered. Now, in a Dateline segment, which aired on Friday night, Shin says he's covering for an accomplice who got rid of the body somewhere, and he won't give up who that person is. Dateline's Keith Morrison asks Shin about getting rid of Smith's body, and that if he wasn't the person who discarded his partner's remains, 'then who did'?

In jailhouse interview, Ed Shin says he doesn't know where Chris Smith's body is. Posing as Smith, Shin told the year-old's loved ones he had sold his share of the ad company the two founded and was living out his dream traveling the world on a chartered yacht with a Playboy Playmate and a stack of gold coins. Police say that for about year Shin managed to dupe almost everyone. People believed Shin because Smith was a surfer with wanderlust stitched into his DNA, and he had been investing in gold coins. Shin, now 42, later confessed to accidentally killing Smith, but he has denied he intentionally murdered him in the office of the company the two men founded. Shin and Smith met in Southern California while both were working in companies specializing in lead generation, a form of media advertising that collects customer leads using numbers, and then sells those leads to other companies. The two men teamed up and later founded their own lead generation company called XChange. He likened his experience to the movie "Wall Street. That's addicting," he said. On one hand, he appeared to be a successful, church-going businessman, married with three kids at home in California. On the other, he was having lavish weekends in Las Vegas, spending the money on women and gambling sprees, and then was secretly siphoning off cash and business from the lead generation company he was working for to the company he and Smith founded.
Yet, as the year went on, the messages from Smith took a darker tone with one message even saying he had contemplated suicide.
