Magic: The Gathering 's Universes Beyond initiative brings outside properties into the game, reskinning familiar characters, settings, and events from them as Magic cards. The Fallout crossover dropped four preconstructed Commander decks , exploring the post-apocalyptic wastes and their radioactive inhabitants. Each Fallout Commander deck featured a higher-than-average number of new-to-Magic cards, around each, with the remaining cards being reprints that flavorfully capture the world of Fallout in Magic form. While the overall reprint value of the set was lower than usual, there are some great standouts, especially coming from Fallout's supplementary products. We'll be covering cards included within the Commander precons as well as Pip-Boy and Vault-Boy treatments cards from Fallout collector boosters.

One key to the continued health of Magic is diversity. It is vitally important to ensure that there are multiple competitive decks for the tournament player to choose from. If there were only a single viable deck to play, tournaments would quickly stagnate as players were forced to either play that deck or a deck built specifically to beat it. In addition, different players enjoy playing different types of decks. If there are plenty of viable options to play, there will be more players at more tournaments. To help maintain the diversity and health of the Magic tournament environment, a system of banned and restricted lists has been developed. These lists are made up of cards that are either not allowed at all, or allowed only in a very limited manner. It's important to note a couple of things: First, these lists apply only to Constructed formats and not Limited formats. Second, the banned and restricted lists are format-specific, so a card that is banned in Modern may still be legal to play in Standard. If a card appears on the banned list for your chosen format, then you may not include that card in your deck or sideboard. Doing so makes your deck illegal to play in any sanctioned tournaments for that format. Cards are usually banned from play if they enable a deck or play style that heavily skews the play environment.

Crucible of Worlds has a lot more competition than it used to when it was the only real 'play lands from your graveyard' effect in Magic. This edhrec commanders model is simple enough to keep the set of feasible decks manageable for optimization purposes, yet it's rich enough to produce useful insights, edhrec commanders.

There's no doubt that Boromir, Warden of the Tower is getting some cEDH buzz, but that's for being an efficient Stax piece that can also protect your stuff, not for being at the helm of a deck. Where do we find the juicy stuff that actually has some decks made around it? Sorry, normally I don't do this kind of thing, and for good reason: You see, we know that the commanders that are on top right now from the new set, they're not going to be the commanders on top here in a few months. It's just too close to spoiler season, and the stuff that got spoiled first will have had more decks made, while the commanders with less colors will be left to the wayside for a while until they're either found to be better than they appeared on first read or they do something in card constructed formats to popularize them.
