A Emma's butt is shown for a few seconds but that just really add to the beauty of the movie. So it all adds to the historical accuracy.

Emma is a period comedy film based on the novel of the same name by Jane Austen. After her governess Miss Taylor marries Mr Weston, Emma proudly takes credit for bringing the couple together and now considers herself a matchmaker within her small community. Her father and an old family friend, George Knightley , whose brother is married to Emma's sister, dispute her claim and discourage any further matchmaking attempts. Ignoring their warnings, she schemes to match Mr Elton, the village clergyman, with her friend, Harriet Smith, a rather unsophisticated young woman on the verges of society. Robert Martin, a respectable local farmer, proposes to Harriet, who is inclined to accept, but Emma, believing Harriet can have better prospects, urges her to refuse him.

Emma is a television film based on the novel of the same name by Jane Austen , directed by Diarmuid Lawrence and dramatised by Andrew Davies , the same year as Miramax 's film adaptation of Emma starring Gwyneth Paltrow was released. Davies had recently made the successful television serial Pride and Prejudice for the BBC when he proposed to adapt Emma for the corporation. Emma received generally positive reviews from critics, many of whom believed it to be superior to the Miramax film. Most focused on Beckinsale's performance as a positive highlight. It aired on ITV on 24 November and garnered an estimated 12 million viewers. Miss Emma Woodhouse lives with her father on his Hartfield estate in the small Surrey town of Highbury, and is young, pretty, and rich. Although she has decided that she will never marry, Emma takes credit for matchmaking her friend and former governess, Miss Taylor, to the widower Mr. Emma decides to organise marriages for others of her acquaintance, despite friendly warnings from Mr. George Knightley not to meddle.
