The Emma NextGen Premium mattress combines a deep spring layer with cushioning memory foam. The medium-firm feel should suit most people, although some lightweight side sleepers might prefer something softer. Updated: February We considered the RRP to be rather high when we reviewed it, but thought it was much more reasonable when on sale; since then Emma has slashed both the RRP and the discounted price, making it much better value. Emma has also introduced a Plus version that's identical except for a cooling cover and a marginally higher price tag. Announced in April and released not long after, the Emma NextGen Premium mattress is something of a departure for a sleep brand that's made its name selling memory foam and hybrid mattresses. With three thin layers of foam sitting on top of tall 18cm pocket springs, it appears to have more in common with traditional pocket sprung mattresses than with other hybrid beds that you'd find in our best mattress guide. The advantage to having such a deep spring layer is that it facilitates airflow and helps the NextGen Premium regulate temperature, and unlike many hybrids it doesn't feature foam side supports around the springs, again helping with airflow but, I discovered, resulting in less edge support than I'd have liked. My previous mattress was a firm pocket sprung mattress with a memory foam top layer, and the NextGen Premium feels only slightly softer than that; I'd rate it more as a 7 or even a 7.

Never heard from them not even after 11pm! I quite simply cannot recommend this mattress highly enough. My partner and I differ considerably in our body weight.

It's ultra-comfortable — especially for side sleepers who'll appreciate the gently cradling memory foam on their shoulders and hips — although can trap body heat slightly, so perhaps one avoided for very hot sleepers. This is really poor service for a mattress which I thought would last me for years because of the good reviews. Good product - Alec Easy to use web site. She said 'yes' unconvincingly. Their customer service department even followed up after I had received the mattress and were so friendly and helpful. I really wanted to keep this very expensive and good quality mattress in tip top condition and fresh but I have now had to sleep in it for 7 nights and already my 2 year old has wet through! Came from having a waterbed for the past 25 years. Our old traditional mattress had become uncomfortable and we wanted a mattress which was both comfortable and yet supportive. Only the box let it down - battered when we received it, but the mattress was fine. Emma's making a big deal about the reduced carbon emissions of this mattress, which is largely down to a serious reduction in the amount of foam you'll find, compared to other models. There was a noticeable smell initially, but this lessens quickly and is not a problem.
