ESAT was established on April 24, by a group of leading exiled journalists, most of whom were jailed, tortured or forced esat tv exile, to provide accurate, objective and balanced news, analysis and information, perspective as well as entertainment, talk shows, esat tv, documentaries, sports and cultural programming pertaining to Ethiopia and the rest of the world. Content is mostly focused on political news from Ethiopia, but also covers some international news.

ESAT will serve as a conduit for citizens to express their opinion freely, to access reliable information and to play its part in the struggle to build a democratic Ethiopia where the free flow of information is the cornerstone of a free country. ESAT is tasked to produce accurate and balanced news and information, as well as other entertainment, sports and cultural programming created for and by Ethiopians. ESAT is committed to the highest standards of broadcast journalism and programming and will strive to provide an outlet of expression to all segments of the diverse Ethiopian community worldwide. ESAT subscribes to the central credo of professional journalists that "public enlightenment is the forerunner of justice and the foundation of democracy. This unfortunate situation compelled dedicated journalists and staff, who served Ethiopia with unwavering passion, to take different paths. ESAN aims to propel the struggle for a better Ethiopia to new heights, speaking truth to power and exposing unacceptable injustices. Our programming will spotlight the achievements and aspirations of Ethiopians while shedding light on ongoing challenges and the enduring desire for freedom. We aspire to be a platform for diverse voices and a catalyst for positive change. In a time when unity is crucial, we invite Ethiopians worldwide to join our movement. Together, we can set in motion a better future for all Ethiopians.
