Parents need to know that Shortcomings is a smart, funny romantic comedy of sorts directed by Randall Park about a deeply cynical film buff named Ben Justin H. Min who finds that his judgmental behavior takes a toll on those around him. There's a brief depiction of internet pornography; very strong,…. Demonstrates how cynicism, negativity, and blaming others are deeply unattractive behaviors, suggesting that there's always hope for a change for the better. Many examples of judgmental behavior based on race, which is shown to be problematic. Characters try their best, and sometimes they're lucky, but they invariably and unintentionally cause others pain. Characters are deeply imperfect and sometimes hard to like at all, but they're nuanced and dimensional, and all have agency. Cast is largely Asian American. Justin H. Jacob Batalon, who was born in Hawaii to Filipino parents, plays one of Ben's movie theater employees. Other characters of color occupy smaller roles. Randall Park, who's Korean American, directed the movie and appears in a cameo.

Few things in life are certain besides death, taxes, and maybe the never-ending task that is doing laundry. That is, until they take an emotional, philosophical, and deeply weird trip through the looking glass into the multiverse and discover metaphysical wisdom along the way. In this love letter to genre cinema, Michelle Yeoh gives a virtuoso performance as Evelyn Wang, a weary owner of a laundromat under IRS audit. We see their smiling faces reflected in a mirror on their living room wall. Soon, Evelyn is thrust into a universe-hopping adventure that has her questioning everything she thought she knew about her life, her failures, and her love for her family. Production designer Jason Kisvarday crafts a seemingly endless cubicle-filled office where everything from the blade of a paper trimmer to a butt plug shaped auditor of the year awards become fair game in a battle to save the universe. Match cuts seamlessly connect the universes together, while playful cuts help emphasize the humor at the heart of the film. Yeoh is the anchor of the film, given a role that showcases her wide range of talents, from her fine martial art skills to her superb comic timing to her ability to excavate endless depths of rich human emotion often just from a glance or a reaction. She is a movie star and this is a movie that knows it. Watching her shine so bright and clearly having a ball brought tears to my eyes more than once.

There are many emotional scenes and it makes you feel great. This is where I explain why this is rated R ————————- I got out of the theatre a couple of hours ago, and the only scenes that i remember being graphic both violently and sexually is one fight scene where the antagonist uses dildos to fight someone the camera gets really close and pauses on the dildos for around 7 seconds , and one where multiple people try to fight to get a butt plug inside of them no nudity is shown in this scene at all.
