As you would expect, there is a section dedicated to the DPF but the Gasoline Particulate filter is not mentioned anywhere. Deceleration increases the amount of oxygen following through the engine and exhaust system. This in turn raises the temperature of the GPF to around c — c, igniting the soot contained within the filter. In conditions where this is not possible, the vehicles engine management systems alter timing causing it to run lean. We understand that in some vehicles the GPF filter is located further down the exhaust system than others. We were lucky enough to find the following image supplied in a forum post of the fordownersclub. Drive at varied range of conditions including highway conditions for 20 minutes or until the message disappears. Until we have any further information we can only suggest that a blast up your local dual carriageway while focusing on periods of throttle off deceleration from high revs. This, in turn, raises the temperature of the GPF to around c — c. This is all sounding very familiar if you ask me. Did you manage to clean it? I thought after the upgrade I would not see this issue, but in my surprised the issue is kept coming up now and then. After that I gave my car in to workshop multiple times for them to work on the issue, however the same issue again showed up after few days of the service done.

I apologize in advance if this has been covered but I cannot find this exact set of warnings with search function. I am at 34, miles and had the oil changed yesterday afternoon. My son picked the truck up for me and on his way home the "drive to clean exhaust message" came on with the "check engine light" at the same time. I get home from work, re-check owners manual and no mention of the check engine light coming on with the drive to clean message. Truck seems to be running fine and the last cleaning exhaust message was Sunday and I believe I was out long enough for it to do its job.

The workaround is given by workshop people is to drive 50 kms straight on highway with consistent speed 50 to 60 without using clutch and break, I did try it but it was vain. I have now switched that off and I can now hear the satnav guidance voice slightly muting the radio, which is better. If you are it may be worth a trip to the local Ford dealership at least to have a conversation with them.
