In a game that requires the players to look out for consistency and efficiency in running a factory, there are bound to be templates and blueprints that work for the better, and the smelting layout is one such place that requires much attention. Before getting into the significant process of the setups, it is of utmost importance to understand the building site's location first and its logistic possibilities. Prioritizing efficiency is the first step or foundation vital for current development and future expansions and upgrades. Having the main bus point or the starting point at the start of the layout would be pivotal to adjusting for upgrades and expansions in the longer run.

The Smelting furnaces require ore and coal for them to have their full functionality.

In other words, free-flowing these two resources is absolutely necessary for efficient output. However, if I were to give some general tips to keep in mind, here they are: - Figure out what you need first, then fulfill that need. Before we continue, if you prefer to see a live demonstration of these ratios, you can check out my Smelting Ratios Video. In fact the 24th furnace will never empty, because it will smelt fast enough to buffer back to whenever it outputs a plate. Build the smeltery up of as many rows as you want. Here are a few though. Having a lot of extra space around the smelting area will save you a lot of time and headache later because you hopefully won't have to move everything each time you want to expand.
