The game follows his story and his internal struggle of man vs. Squall uses a mixture between a gun and a sword called the gunblade. Following on from the biggest game in the franchise, Final Fantasy VIII saw a band of military cadets attempting to stop an evil sorceress from compressing time. We also got to see some interesting parallels between the generations of characters through playable segments that saw us controlling Laguna, Kiros and Ward in the past.
