So when the company announced a turntable I asked for one to review. A DC motor drives a lightweight twelve inch aluminum platter—which is one way a manufacturer of budget-priced turntables can keep the cost down. The packaging is smart and the directions are competently written and easy to follow. However I also fell under its seductively warm sway. This is Webster with a small string section recorded in at legendary, now defunct Radio Recorders. While the bottom end was somewhat overblown, it was not noticeably out of control nor did it lose its rhythmic cool—at least until I played a track from the Clap! This record has massive deep bass explosions that through my reference turntable distinctly stop and start between pulverizing beats. Through the Fluance the beats kind of overlap. Ideally the green line should be flat it rarely is, but can be less wavy than here. I also noted a very lively plinth while a record played. Plus if you tend to fall asleep while listening it can shut off at the end of the side. Bring them on. Mike, would you surmise that the Denon is also built in that same factory as the Teac and Fluance? Having read the review, I reckon this turntable should be 'the' starting point for anybody getting into vinyl and prevents people from buying those awful cheapie turntables that are on offer in record stores. I will be politically correct and not mention any names, but I know everybody knows exactly who I am talking about!

Any deals since its sibling arrived? In fact, apart from an all-white model released in to celebrate Fluance's 20th birthday which came bundled with a set of speakers and was a corker of a deal at the time , this deck just keeps running off shelves at full price. A moment of silence, please. Still, I was determined to get the best quality turntable that I could afford. Since the RT81 takes standard headshells, you can swap cartridges easily if you want to experiment, which is a nice touch. Who's Umami? Records are now and will remain a niche format at best, so the economies of scale dictate that the cost of obtaining a solid turntable is going to be higher than the days when vinyl was the dominant audio format.
