However, I happen to have a pair of the basic set cars rwd sidewinder, magnatraction, no lights, cosmetically battered , which I've just tried out on a friend's large, but very bumpy, Classic Scalextric layout.

Other Scaley rally cars I've seen from the same sort of era, and fitted for lighting, have a large, mazak casting under the bonnet, enclosing the bulb and supporting the ends of the light guides.
