Overall, it is a very well researched and thoroughly edited textbook that encompasses different historical and cultural events and their impact on society. It accomplished its purpose in interesting me in history but probably was not the best, especially since it is lacking in economic history. One of the major flaws in the book is its lack of clear referencing so someone is quoted to have said something and there is no indication where to actually find out more about it which of course based on the length of the book it means it would have been twice as much as it actually is. Its a college textbook; you read it because you have to, not because you want to. This text highlights this disparity, and apparently, that angers a lot of people who don't want to admit that the America many of us learned about in high school is just an illusion. Rate this book. I may be rating it lower than others would because I didn't get to slow down and enjoy, but rather try to inhale as much knowledge as I could from it. It's just, the way this book is set up is painful. Informative and easy to read. It may brief edition but it is jam packed with American history.
