Got season 5 episode 9

This page includes content relating to the Dance of the Dragons, and therefore contains potential spoilers for future seasons of House of the Dragonas revealed in George R. Martin's writings.

The 'Thrones' roller coaster becomes more extreme than ever. This is a Game of Thrones recap I have wanted to write for a long time. Dany escaping the Daznak fighting pit while riding Drogon is one of the most exciting and climactic moments in George R. Martin's novels. And the death of Shireen—which is not in the novels at least not yet, but apparently will be —is one of the most horrifying sequences in the show's history and something I've been privately obsessing over since first hearing about it. Thrones has always excelled at giving us moments of terror and triumph, but seldom have the highs and lows ever been so extreme, or come so quickly on top of each other, than in the past few episodes. We've had hugs and euphoria Dany meets Tyrion!

Weiss based on material primarily found on George R. Martin 's novel A Dance with Dragons , from which the title of the episode is derived. It was directed by David Nutter , who also directed the season finale. Arya Stark seeks personal revenge in Braavos. In Meereen, Daenerys Targaryen is ambushed in a surprise attack by the Sons of the Harpy during a tournament in the fighting pits, eventually escaping with Drogon. In the United States, it received a viewership of 7. Jon retreats from Hardhome to the Wall defeated, accompanied by the surviving wildlings. Much to the chagrin of some of the Night's Watch, Jon allows them to pass through the gates and come south of the Wall. Caught in a snowstorm, Stannis 's army is low on morale and supplies after Ramsay Bolton sabotages his resources in the night. Stannis commands Davos to return to Castle Black and ask Jon for supplies and manpower, promising to return the favor when he takes the Iron Throne. As Davos leaves, Stannis reluctantly allows Melisandre to sacrifice his daughter, Shireen, to the Lord of Light for the prospect of better weather, so his army can continue their march to Winterfell. Bronn is also released from captivity by Prince Trystane. In the fighting pits, Daenerys Targaryen attends a tournament.

The Green Council As Aemond One-Eye looked up in terror, Daemon ripped off his nephew's helm and drove the sword down into his one remaining eye so hard the point came out the back of the young prince's throat.

In true Game of Thrones fashion, some parts dramatically pushed the envelope. It's been frustrating in recent weeks how Daenerys hasn't taken full advantage of her dragons as a source of hard-handed legitimacy to her rule. Even if roasting local elites at random wasn't the best intimidation tactic, the Mother of Dragons still needs her namesake to lay down the rule of the law. We wanted dragons, and this week we got them. After the recent scenes building up the emotional bond between Stannis and his daughter Shireen, you might conclude that this season might come to a close without Melisandre's plans for child murder playing out. But her witchcraft tends to have one distinct advantage: it works or at least she makes it seem like it does.

That was me a couple of weeks ago , predicting the exact opposite of what actually came to pass on Sunday as sweet Shireen, the greyscale-afflicted daughter of Stannis and the one thing that made the glowering lord of Dragonstone seem halfway human, was … Oh man. As losses go, this was one of the biggest the show has served up — by the basic standards of human decency, if not necessarily from a narrative logic standpoint. More on that in a minute. Stannis Baratheon, well outfitted and showing signs of a strong moral core to boot, was surging in the North. Stannis, it seemed, was ready to conquer and lead. Dany was not. The desperation and addled thronelust that Stannis showed in committing this despicable act, one that will alienate his most loyal associates he knew to send Davos away before the sacrifice , suggest less a kingly contender than a flailing pretender. Dany, meanwhile, is literally soaring as we speak. Of course it was Ramsay Bolton who set the whole awful thing into motion, raiding Camp Stannis, burning the food, setting the horses aflame and otherwise pushing the wannabe king to the edge of his resolve.

Written by David Benioff and D. Weiss Directed by David Nutter. Sensing something amiss, Melisandre walks out of her tent and watches as the Baratheon camp catches fire. In the morning, Davos Seaworth and Stannis Baratheon take stock of the damage wreaked by Ramsay Bolton and his 20 men. Short on food, weapons and horses, Davos tells Stannis there's no pressing forward unless there's a thaw, and not enough supplies to get them back to Castle Black. Stannis reiterates that retreat isn't an option, then joins Melisandre and Selyse. He sends for Davos soon after and instructs him to return to Castle Black to restock.

This is very nice of her. Perhaps Arya should quit her vengeance quest and consider oyster peddling as a profession, just open up food truck by the docks, call it something like "Go Shuck Yourself! His brother disappeared over the horizon or beneath the waves. Daemon took Caraxes up swiftly until he disappeared into a bank of clouds. The Hollywood Reporter. But, oh, how I wish they had. And so Queen Rhaenyra climbed the steps and seated herself on the Iron Throne. All hell breaks loose. List of Partners vendors. Jon recruits the help of an unexpected ally. Erik Kain of Forbes was more critical of the sacrifice scene. I love the way Daario tells Hizdahr to shut up the moment he tries to advise Dany in this matter. Dany's entourage leaps to her defense. The Dance of Dragons. Either way, it again makes us question Melisandre and assess how we truly feel about her.

Welcome to another episode of Game of Thrones , season 5.

First, we get some really impressive sweeping shots of the arena. Braavos : Arya continues stalking the insurance huckster by the bay, just waiting for a chance to give him a dash of poisoned seafood condiment. In the midst of this chaos, a one-handed fool called the Shepherd began to rant against dragons. Arya arrives in Braavos. All hell breaks loose. We've had hugs and euphoria Dany meets Tyrion! She starts the fight and watches as Jorah battles for his survival against five other warriors, finally emerging victorious. Thorne relents and lets them in. Even up to this point, we're all thinking this is not really going to happen. We use vendors that may also process your information to help provide our services. Queen Helaena pleaded with the men to kill her instead, but they refused. At the Wall, Jon Snow returns with what appears to be a couple hundred Wildlings. I was surprised the episode went from Shireen's demise to this incredible sequence that's ultimately uplifting. After some hesitation, Ser Alliser Thorne instructs the guards to open the gates to the Lord Commander and the refugees. At first, the fool rejected the crown, but his mother pointed out that his sister Rhaenyra would return such loyalty by taking his head.
