There are many themes that make up Masashi Kishimoto's Naruto, and one of the biggest themes is that of mentor-student relationships, granny chiyo. It all begins with Granny chiyo taking an interest in Naruto and helping him graduate from the academy.

She is a retired counselor of Sunagakure and also a famed puppeteer, the leader of Sunagakure's Puppet Brigade and a medical-nin. She is the grandmother of Sasori , one of the Akatsuki members. She committed suicide by sacrifice her own life to revive the Fifth Kazekage, Gaara. Chiyo, often called Honoured Grandmother Chiyo by the Sunagakure villagers, was the village's poison, and puppet expert.

As Chiyo watched Sasori continue to immerse himself in puppets, Chiyo became increasingly concerned for her grandson. However, she instead chose to remain indifferent, focusing most of her attention on helping the village. One day, Komushi , a young shinobi and one of Sasori's only friends, was badly injured during a mission, costing him his right arm. Demonstrating a new style of puppet ninjutsu, Sasori replaced Komushi's arm with a fully movable puppet arm as a prosthetic limb , coated with Sasori's newest poison.

Chiyo and her brother Ebizo are highly revered throughout granny chiyo land of Sunegakure. She also installed this shield on the Mother and Father puppets. The siblings were rather disappointed when the village was showing to be so reliant on others, granny chiyo.

Chiyo features an unusual control scheme: aside from her , and , she has no physical attacks at all. Instead, her moveset is governed by her two puppets: Mother and Father. Mother and Father's attacks are always guaranteed to come out once they've been started, even if Chiyo gets hit afterwards. However, the puppets float above the stage and cannot be interacted with, which also means that they will not move alongside Chiyo. Instead, they remain in their current position unless recalled with Mother or Father.
