Halberds are basically longer versions of other weapons, often sacrificing speed for a bigger reach and power. And that remains true in Dark Souls 2 as well, halberd ds2.

In-Game Description. Despite lacking any major qualities, it is, in essence, a starting weapon. Easy to use, lightweight and with low requirements, though with very solid damage, it is nothing special, yet it is not bad either. It is also rather long, and while this can be a boon for players who like to fight from afar; the weapon will deal much less damage if the shaft connects with the opponent, making it less effective if not used at the proper range. Requires: Halberd, Raw Stone and 2, souls for Infusion.

Halberds in Dark Souls II are a type of Weapon that's similar to Spears , it is most effective when the tip or blade of the Halberd hits the enemy. Halberds also have a long reach, most of their movesets consists of slashing attacks, which covers a wider range and good when faced against multiple opponents. Halberds are slower than Spears, but they deal more damage. Some Halberds can also do thrusting attacks, and those that do can also be used while guarding with a Shield. Once you figure out proper spacing to consistently hit enemies with the head, you have a weapon with insane reach and UGS tier damage. Just carry a short weapon to counter more aggressive enemies, i could never get the manikins to stay in the sweetspot.
