Hattons Model Railways has announced the sad news that it will be closing their model railway business for good after being in the market since

Hattons Model Railways were a British retailer and manufacturer of model railway paraphernalia founded in Liverpool , England , in by Norman Hatton — His idea was to sell things that people found hard to get after the war. He discovered that model locomotives and toys were his best-selling items and he began to focus his attention on purchasing as much of this kind of stock as he could, mainly driving around Liverpool looking for second-hand stock to sell on; by the s Hattons was on its way to becoming a fully-fledged model shop. By Norman realised that he needed bigger premises. He remained on Smithdown Road and moved into number that year. It was around this time that Meccano wanted to offload a large quantity of stock, and they sold the lot to Hattons for a fraction of what they were worth. Norman was quoted in a interview as saying some items took 20 years to sell out, due to the amount he had purchased.

After 77 years in the model railway business, Hattons Model Railways has announced its upcoming closure. The exact date of closing is not known yet, but it will be communicated by Hattons on their website in the coming weeks. Some Hattons Originals models will still be produced and released as announced including Batch 2 Genesis coaches and Warwell reruns. P class reruns and Andrew Barclay reruns are under review as to whether they will be produced or not. Batch 3 Genesis coaches and Belihack reruns will not be produced. Originals models that will be produced are still available for pre-order, however no further pre-orders will be fulfilled by Hattons. Curbside pickup is still available for the time being when the store is open. Change to availability will be communicated by the website. Hattons has suspended the purchasing of pre-owned collections effective immediately. However, pre-owned stock will be added to the website until there are no more products to add. It was a shock to the modelling world earlier this year, when stalwart of the industry, Hattons, announced that it was to close. At Rails, we could not allow the legacy of this esteemed brand to disappear and we have sought a way to keep the spirit of Hattons alive. How is it we have only a handful of manufacturers who seems to think it is possible to manufacture in the UK and manage to turn out consistently great models at prices lower than the Chinese crap from the likes of Hornby. The end has now come, may this business rest in peace financially with people who care about it personally. About a month ago they announced that they would be closing down operations in Maryland, all employees would be laid off, and started a clearance sale. This is NOT good! New locos from the main manufacturers are well over priced and they just think that people will just keep on paying their over inflated prices if they want certain locos etc. He was just Whilst the son was Lording it in London! I know shipping and wages increase but prices have excelled way too much which I know would kill it in the end. But i do know that good manners cost nothing. Now this announcement by Hattons that they are closing follows. Wish all the staff the best in finding new employment. Sad news indeed.
