There isn't necessarily a better choice, per se: due to the way the Special Stat works talked about it in a comment in your previous questionOmastar actually ends up being quite bulky and potent on the Special side, but is slow and has low HP and Attack; Kabutops is a bit faster and has more Attack, while still having high Defense although much lower than Omastar and a bad Special Stat, so it won't do too much with its Water Moves and won't take Special hits too well, helix or dome fossil. At the end of the day, it depends on your preferred playstyle slightly faster but less bulky, slower but tankier ; I'd personally pick Omastar, but that's just as a result of helix or dome fossil personal taste.

Here's an expanded look at stats for the creatures featured in the Helix Fossil. In terms of overall popularity, Omanyte and Omastar have enjoyed a huge resurgence in recent years, perhaps leaving this clawed menace behind.
They often take inspiration from real-life prehistoric creatures big and small. However, since Red and Blue , there's been a debate between the quality of the original fossils: the Helix Fossil's Omanyte versus the Dome Fossil's Kabuto. Both of these evolutionary lines may have the same typing in Rock and Water, but they function quite differently in battle. So, which Fossil is ultimately better to bring along? It's amazing how far the series has come over the years and players now have access to tons of different Pokemon, with many more on the way. Some of these Pokemon are much more iconic than others, with the Original holding a special place in the hearts of many long-standing fans. Players who managed to find the Helix or Dome Fossil in Generation I were greeted by Kabutops or Omanyte, two seemingly innocent-looking miniature Pokemon that evolve into some truly terrifying prehistoric creatures.
On this page we're going to run down the differences between the two fossils so you can decide which you might prefer to take and turn into a Pokemon for your team - plus explain exactly how you go about doing that. The Dome Fossil and Helix Fossil aren't the only ancient Pokemon in the game, however - if you know where to go, you can also head and pick up an Old Amber , another fossil-style item that can be turned into arguably the coolest prehistoric style Pokemon of all. Plus, new to Let's Go, ther'es the ability to find some additional fossils in the late game. As if choosing between the exclusive move learning partner Pikachu and Eevee in your version of the game and choosing between Hitmonlee or Hitmonchan in the fighting dojo isn't enough, Pokemon Let's Go has another major choice for you when you explore Mt. Moon: the Dome Fossil or the Helix Fossil? In real terms this is just like the fighting dojo - it boils down to a choice between two similar but ultimately quite different Pokemon - Kabuto or Omanyte. Kabuto looks a little like a bug, while Omanyte is sort of like an underwater snail type Pokemon. Both are Rock and Water-type, but how do they break down one against the other? Well, here's how the choice manifests
Helix or dome fossil
You get to choose between the Helix and Dome Fossils in Mt. Moon, after you defeat a particular trainer. The choice matters because it changes which Pokemon you will get from the fossil. Which you choose depends on which Pokemon you prefer. Neither of them are fan favorites, particularly, nor do they generally offer move types that are particularly powerful, but you may be looking for a certain type to round out your squad.

Which of the these two Kanto Fossils did you usually end up picking at Mt. You can rest assured this wasn't done by staff and we can find no indication that the forums themselves have been compromised. Either way, Shell Smash keeps Omastar from being locked down into one playstyle, even if its speed still isn't great. Ask A Question. They are both so dang cool Omastar has access to Spikes and Stealth Rock, along with the bulk necessary to set those traps up. Browse More Questions. Up Next: Event Pokemon Previous. It is the counterpart of the Helix Fossil. If brought to the one of the following locations, the Dome Fossil can be regenerated into a Kabuto. The player is unable to regenerate this fossil in the Devon Corporation.
Shell Smash is an incredible move, with some drawbacks in that it lowers the Defense and Special Defense of the user. Omanyte shows up as surprise pokemon when you battle the Juggler's single Hypno lv38 in Fuchsia Gym, located right next to the Gym Hint Guy, or else, if you battle the Chaneller's Haunter lv38 in Saffron Gym, located immediately west of Sabrina. I just liked Omnite Omanyte more than Kabuto since Kabuto looked too flat to me, and Kabutops looked too much like a brown version of Strike Scyther. For those interested in the scare factor, Kabutops has a slight edge. In fact, the Pokemon share the exact same archetype, meaning they have the same glaring weakness to Grass and are resistant to five different typing of Pokemon. Kabuto 2. Using a Scarf locks it out of Swords Dance as a buffing option. They're both worthless because you don't get to use the fossil until the game is almost over. This gives it an edge over Defoggers, since Defog clears all hazards on both sides of the field. It isn't nearly as limited in the Little Cup meta as a result.
