There are also flashes of a mystery third POV, that comes in very short snippets which add so much to the eerie, mysterious atmosphere.
Feeney improves on her debut with a taut suspense plot, many gleeful twists and turns, and suspects galore. A news presenter and a police detective are brought together by murders in the British village where they both grew up. Which only makes sense, because you can't have reveals without secrets. Who is that sneaky third narrator? On the way to figuring that out, expect high school mean girls, teen lesbian action, mutilated corpses, nasty things happening to kittens, and—as seems de rigueur in British thrillers—plenty of drinking and wisecracks, sometimes in tandem. She is assigned to cover a murder in sleepy Blackdown Woods, a place that she never wanted to return to. Usually when I listen to audiobooks I listen to them over a week long time of commuting to work, but this audiobook hooked me from the start and I listened to the whole thing within 24 hours. I think of Alice Feeney's writing as nesting dolls: she slowly unearths one layer at a time, leading you to a different conclusion and a deeper understanding of each character as the story progresses. When she's asked to cover a murder, the victim is familiar Priya arrives and shoots Jack. By the end you will feel like the author is genius to think of something like that but when you analyse it the turn of events will feel off the nook. I obviously believe that thrillers and mystery novels can and should! I enjoyed the book very much! Any thoughts? I definitely recommend this book and other books by this author to any thriller fans! His and Hers is her third book and just like her first book I was utterly gripped by it and compelled to read it, puzzled and amazed by the cleverness of the plot. Jack: Three words to describe my wife: Beautiful. Anna: I only need one word to describe my husband: Liar.
She is never really happy with herself though, is an alcoholic and eats almost nothing to maintain the look that she wants. The story is cleverly told through divorce couple Anna and Jack's POV in his and her alternating chapters as the story unfolds. Alice Feeney has done it again. But who is telling the truth? Secondly, she knew who Anna was, why work so closely with her and pretend not to know her after everything that happened to her. This is my first audio book from NetGalley Shelf.
