Homestuck is an Internet fiction webcomic series created by American author and artist Andrew Hussie.
The webcomic centers on a group of teenagers who unwittingly bring about the end of the world through the installation of a beta copy of an upcoming computer game. Hussie invented an alien species, called trolls, that have a unique culture. Homestuck characters are particularly popular to cosplay at anime conventions. According to Lauren Rae Orsini writing for The Daily Dot , there existed named characters in Homestuck in September , with more still being introduced. The first few acts of Homestuck center around four year-old children. Early pages of Homestuck were experiments in "fan-sourced storytelling", where Hussie allowed readers of Homestuck to name its characters and make story suggestions.

Hussie has appeared several times as a self-insert character within Homestuck, although of course this character may say and do things that the real Andrew Hussie would not. This project only covers data contained within Acts 1 though 4 of Homestuck. All dialogue in Homestuck is carried out through online chats on the fictional instant messaging system Pesterchum. All characters have individual "typing quirks," primarily consisting of variations in capitalization and punctuation habits, that make their typing style different from everyone else in the comic. Dialogue is broken up script style, with each line preceded by the writer's chat handle. These lines can contain anything from multiple sentences to a single emoticon and a speaker can have more than one line in a row. The Narrator is the one exception to this. He writes in ordinary paragraph form, and all line statistics for him apply to sentences. So, his measure of average words per line is actually average words per sentence. The scatterplot above visually represents the relationship between word counts and distinct word counts, or type-token ratio. The type-token ratio is the percentage of words in a sample of text that are distinct. In this text at least, there seems to be a general correlation between type-token ratio and word count.
For example, Sollux, who has only one conversation and uses a total of only words, has one of the highest type-token ratios at TopatoCo [ edit ] Hussie, Andrew
John: a giant goofball who enjoys the art of pranking, bad movies he thinks they're awsome , and paranormal lore. Rose: a reserved and intelligent straight-man girl who enjoys creative writing, psychoanalysis, and wizards. Dave: a totally for real cool kid who likes sick beats, preserved dead things, and the art of irony. Jade a quirky narcoleptic who likes cartoons and nuclear physics. She is also a skilled riflewoman, and her dog Becquerel can warp space. Karkat: a crabby loud-mouth who likes coding even though he's not good at it and watching romantic comedies.
Homosuck is Caliborn 's unique take on the story of the kids and trolls within Homestuck which comprises the majority of content within the Act 6 Act 6 "Acts". It gives us our first advanced glimpse of Caliborn's artistic ambitions and prowess, greatly improved from earlier events in Act 6. What initially starts off as a faithful retelling of Homestuck's Act 1, suddenly subverts our expectations by making John Egbert perish to the meteor instead of warping to the medium, and switching to another narrative featuring an entirely different character, showing Caliborn's true writing prowess. In the middle of our tale, the real John ends up in Homosuck through his retcon powers , and being the obnoxious hater that he is, begins having a tantrum over Caliborn's story, frequently commenting on it's factual innacuracies and low quality art, to the point that the Heir of Breath vanquished our protagonist JUST as one of the females were about to kiss him for his heroics. Though our author manages to fend him off using various Alpha males created from time-paradoxes. After wasting time on stupid characters that don't matter , we return to a new and improved version of Homosuck, which gained a new anime-esque artstyle thanks to Caliborn's extensive research on a "How to draw manga" book, featuring sloppy romance, biting critique of Homestuck's cast of troll girls and one handsome self-insertion guy. Just as Caliborn was writting another thrilling chapter to the story, John returned to the scene, now wanting to fight the cherub, but little did he know, the Lord would make sure the Heir would pay with his teeth, and with his blood.
