How to fully define a sketch in fusion 360
Here is a little part I have been working on recently. I cannot, for the life of me, get the sketch fully defined.
A Sketch is a geometric profile that forms the foundation of 3D geometry in a design in Fusion. Before you can create 3D objects in your design, you first need to create the underlying sketch profiles that drive the overall shapes of the parametric solid, surface, or T-spline bodies that make up your design. Sketches are the backbone of any subsequent parametric modeling. If you create a robust sketch profile, you can improve your workflow and minimize potential downstream issues in your design. You can create sketches on a plane or existing planar face on a body, and create geometry in relation to the XY , YZ , and ZX planes, or at any arbitrary point in 3D space.

I created the sketch that I want to extrude. As you can see the lines are blue, so the sketch is not fully defined. Is it even possible to fully define the sketch with the two splines on the sides of this model? As soon as I change the dimension of the longest line I get a skewed model and the form of both splines changes, which is not what I want. Skewed Kind regards. Go to Solution. Solved by lichtzeichenanlage. Before I'm answering the question, I like to mention that you've two problems in your sketch. To fully define a spline, you have to dimension the handles, so that you can't move them anymore. You can achieve this by defining the length and defining the angle to other sketch lines. Constrains with other sketch lines are also possible. I don't get the part about including the origin in my sketch.

For sketches to maintain their shape when making any edits such as changing the size of a circle in a sketch , you must dimension and constrain the sketch until you can no longer freely move its entities. When you can no longer click and drag any entities in the canvas, the sketch is fully defined. All the individual sketch entities change from blue to black in color. Sketching is a fundamental aspect of design in Autodesk Fusion Learn the basics of sketching and its importance in the design process. Sketching in Fusion serves as the foundation for creating 3D models. It involves drawing 2D shapes and profiles that form the basis of your designs. Explore various sketching techniques in Fusion to enhance your design process. Learn to use powerful tools such as lines, arcs, circles, rectangles, and splines to create complex shapes. Experiment with sketch patterns and mirroring techniques to speed up your workflow and create symmetrical designs efficiently. Ensure your sketches are fully closed and free of open contours. If not, this may cause issues during extrusion or feature creation.

Please let us know if you find the video helpful by leaving feedback on our Self-Paced Learning site. This will ensure that any sketches you create will be contained within that active component, helping you keep your geometry organized. Now, on the Solid tab in the Design workspace, select Create Sketch from the toolbar. You can select an origin plane, an existing construction plane, or a planar face on an existing body.
